Katie Couric's Advice For Sarah Palin

The NY Post caught up with CBS anchor Katie Couric and asked her about former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin:

Couric thinks Sarah Palin has a thing or two to learn about politics before she contemplates a White House run in 2012. "I think she should keep her head down, work really hard and learn about governing. But I'm not anyone to give advice to anyone about anything," she told Page Six at Glamour Magazine's 2008 Women of the Year Awards dinner at the Essex House. Although her interview with Palin made the Alaska governor look dumb (while rejuvenating Couric's flagging career in the process), Couric won't give herself too much credit. "I was really just a conduit that allowed her to air her views," she said. "I don't want to judge. I'll let the voters do that."

Why Katie? I listened to the Wolf Blitzer, Greta Van Susteren, Matt Lauer questions. They were all soft, easy to understand.

Wolf asked her what she thought would be the status of Affirmitive Action post Obama's election. Her reply, non-sensical avoidance.

Ask Miss Congeniality, (and such as, and such as), expect a, "you betcha," reply.

To me Katie has no talent,
Her advice to learn how to govern, I know I haven't fell off the turnip truck, but Sarah has governed the state of Alaska for the last few years. Also, her approval ratings are at least of 60%, from the citizens of that State. I think this shows me the character and capability of a person. Besides what the media will say or they don't say....lets discuss our no growth, no drill congress. Lets think on their approval rating, what is in the teens? Do you think Katie should offer the same advice to mrs.peloski, or mr reid or mr. barney franks one of the subprime criminals who helped to bring down our economy with subprime loans. Now they can govern! Sarah should follow their techniques. What about that RNC Convention-Sarah rocked that building, how about how many people watched. Check out Katies rating who is watching? How about that Biden,Palin debate. See you in2012-GO PALIN!

Someone should give the advice of "shut up and go home" to Sarah.

Such advice would never deter Sarah Palin! She's not afraid to ruffle her feathers.

If Katie is guilty of anything, it is for asking such simple questions. Who would have guessed that Palin didn't have a clue. (Okay, many of us guessed, but Katie just brought out the proof.)

Couric said what she needed to say in that situation; she cannot criticize her openly but neither can she pretend that Palin is totally clueless, that was obvious to her most hardcore supporters.

I don't think Palin is beyond help, she can learn, but she can only learn facts and that's the problem. Many Republicans think that if she can just learn something about ANYTHING she'd be ready. With proper tuition she can learn facts, just as Bush did, but it will only be crammin', there will be no wisdom behind that knowledge, because cultivation of knowledge and contemplation take time. That process cannot and should not be accelerated.

A 45 year old coach potato -who hasn't run a mile in 20 years- can put in the effort and get into very good shape, gradually, but that same coach potato shouldn't pretend that after only three months of training he'll be ready for the Olympics.

My advise to Katie... F off

Couric was doing exactly what she was supposed to do, but apparently your gal Sarah just seem to find (in her head) the answers that she had been fed by the McCain campaign staffers.

Instilling a sense of studiousness in Sarah Palin would be like inducing conscientiousness in a grasshopper. The equipment for such an operation to be successful simply does not exist.

You cannot pin ideas and concepts to thin air, which is the environment inside Palin's head.

Good point. Not much to work with there.

Not exactly being overburdened with intelligence herself, it is perhaps wise that Miss Couric managed to keep her own counsel in this instance.

Next to Palin, Couric sounds like Einstein....

Who cares what Couric has to say if it wasn't for her using certain journalistic talents (ahmmm) noone would have ever heard of her!

We can all be nice to Katie for embarrassing SP. However, Katie was one of the biggest no questions asked WHORES for the Iraq "War" and I will never forget it. She sucks.

What exactly did Katie do to embarrass Palin? All she did was ask questions. Its not her fault Palin isnt too bright.

Couric could have given her some good hints. For example, on newspapers Palin reads, she could could have worded the question something like this: What newspapers do you read, ya know, like the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Anchorage News.. ???

Couric was just making the questions too tough, and that's not fair. And it could be indicative that she is part of a liberal left-wing conspiracy.

Here's the sad thing. I certainly do not mean this to be seen as derogatory towards Katie Couric. However, she will never be confused journalistically with Edward R. Murrow. For most candidates those interviews would have been a cake walk. The responses to the questions I do believe surprised Katie herself. They were not exactly "gotcha' questions. I mean, name a Supreme Court decision that you did not agree with ( she had one go against her in Alaska in the last year), name a newspaper you read. I mean c'mon. Does anyone really believe Katie was expecting the reaction she got. I believe Katie was going easy on her. I do believe she was shocked. But the beauty of Palin and her handlers was they turned this into the "fault" of the media. Did they expect that they would edit these responses out? She gave these ridiculous answers in front of millions of people on national TV. Why are we still talking about her?

We talk about her because we wonder when she'll finally "jump the shark".... 52% feel she already has, 45% feel she hasn't, 7% don't know.

Couric did not plan the result of Palin interview. She was just as shocked as everyone else at Palin's answers and personality. There were no hard or out of the ordinary questions, nor was Couric being tough or brilliant...Palin was just a goober of ignorance and pretense. I imagine Couric was thinking, "How did this woman ever get to be governor even?", but it just turned out to be a huge event because no one vetted her and as they say..."Normally one must go to a bowling alley to meet a person of Palin's stature"...but president??...what a nightmare.

That was the whole beauty of the Couric interview with Palin. They precisely WEREN'T gotcha questions but questions any reasonably prepared candidate ought to have been able to answer in his or her sleep. I say that was the beauty of the interview, because the takeaway was that if Palin can't even answer THOSE sorts of questions....

What amazes me is that such a vast number of American people think she has a future in US national politics.

It is really quite unthinkable that someone so intellectually bankrupt should have even been, or still be considered for high office at all. This would simply not happen anywhere else in the developed world.

Even more preposterous is that Republicans, who seem (deludedly) to think themselves more patriotic than liberals, should promote someone who would bring the US into deeper international ridicule and contempt than that already brought to it by GWB (and that is staggering enough). What on earth is patriotic about making the world's most powerful and influential country a laughing stock?

Thank You!! However as much as it amazes me- it frightens me more. Country first? You've got to be kidding.

One thing I've discovered over decades of watching the Republican presidential nominating process. No matter how bad a Republican Presidential candidate is, they always manage to find somebody worse next time around. Palin definitely confirms this theory. Palin/Jindal 2012!

There's nothing like reading a book or two to improve the mind. And as Dan Quayle once noted: "A mind is a terrible thing to lose."
