WASHINGTON — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday she would consider serving in the Senate if God gave her the opportunity and Alaskans wanted her to take the job. The state's senior senator, Republican Ted Stevens, fell narrowly behind as the count resumed in his re-election bid.

Stevens, who has been in the Senate for 40 years, led by just over 3,000 votes when the Election Day count ended last week. He dropped three votes behind his Democratic challenger, Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, late Wednesday as Alaska election officials counted 44,000 of an estimated 90,000 absentee and provisional ballots.

Even if he is re-elected, Stevens could be ousted by the Senate for his conviction on seven felony counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts, mostly renovations on his home. If Stevens loses his seat, Palin could run for it in a special election. She also could challenge incumbent GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski in 2010.

Palin, who was the GOP vice presidential nominee, has two years left on her term as governor. She told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday that she wants to serve her constituents the best she can. "At this point it is as governor," she said.

"Now if something shifted dramatically and if it were, if it were acknowledged up there that I could be put to better use for my state in the U.S. Senate, I would certainly consider that but that would take a special election and everything else," she said. "I am not one to appoint myself or a member of my family to take the place of any vacancy."

Pressed in a separate interview with CNN's Larry King about whether she would serve out her term as governor, Palin said, "I will do what the people of Alaska want me to do."

She added, however, "if they call an audible on me, and if they say they want me in another position, I'm going to do it. ... My life is in God's hands. If he's got doors open for me, that I believe are in our state's best interest, the nation's best interest, I'm going to go through those doors."

While she was on the GOP ticket, Palin put aside questions about Stevens' Senate seat.

I think that within the confines of a political campaign proper protocol is to lay off the personal stuff. But afterwards if you stay out there in attack mode you become fair game.

I would like to know if Sarah Palin had an affair with her husbands business partner?
Whether the baby Trig is her son or grandson? If her son, is Todd the father?
What was her and her husbands involvement with anti-American separatist groups?
Will any of her kids graduate high school? How important is education in her household?
What was the extent of her involvement with almost $200,000.00 in frivolous spending and shopping sprees? Was it fun? Is this how she would treat a multi-trillion dollar budget?

If she is willing to continue to get in front of mics to do damage to the President -elect she should be willing to provide real answers these questions.
Post any additional questions.

Let us PLEASE stop talking about her, she loves the attention. She will not go away until the stories stop.

I jsut thought of something. Who funded her run for governor? Did she put up the money herself? Where did they get the money to put on a campaign?

Follow the money.

Her oldest boy, got into a lot of trouble one weekend. He and some friends seriously vandalized dozens of school busses at the bus barn. They were drunk, high, and smashed windows, slashed tires, etc.
No charges, the judge said military or jail so he join the military and was deployed to the middle east. He did not graduate high school.Plus now she has a pregnant 17 year old daughter.I think she should show a little commitment to her previous "choice Of being a mother" and get herself back into her home - WITHOUT cameras this time - and raise the rest of her minor children. She should try for at least ONE high school graduate! she seems Very detached and disingenuous with regards to her children..

i wonder what odds vegas is giving, on whether or not a single one of Palin's children will graduate from high school ?
12:26 PM on 11/13/2008
I agree. Ever notice how she holds the baby?

Yes and so did my wife who formed her opinion against the Governor on this rather than her lack of knowledge on matters of governance . We were under the impression that babys should be cradled and their necks supported at all times. She is the hockey mom though and she and her immediate relatives have borne and raised many more children than we so her greater experience suggests otherwise.
In a recent interview she said her young daughter - the one she calls sister, the one standing in the kitchen in high heels while the Governor, also in high heels, cooked dinner- had fallen behind due absence from school during the campaign. We also thought that the GOP and the Governor would have arranged for tutors and to have her schoolwork sent to her to avoid that. My wife and I never wear high heels when we cook dinner here in Alaska ( I do mos the cooking and unsurprisingly never wear heels). We thought that when dealing with the hazards of fire, slippery spots and boiling liquids in kitchens it is best to wear sensible footwear. Having raised so many children and prepared so many meals, hockey mom knows best. though,

"If they call an audible on me?" Why doesn't she know how stupid she sounds? I can't believe that anyone would think she would be a good leader of ANYTHING.

WHAT THE FRIG!!!!

I'm just watching Palin in Miami, and she doesn't know the frigging election is over! She is still campaigning. I can't believe this.

She just mentioned Joe the Frigging Plumber.

When will this woman go away!!!!
12:27 PM on 11/13/2008
She will not go away easily. But, like all celebrities, she will not be constantly in the news. She is still relatively new (two months). She does want to remain in the limelight. It reminds me of the World War I song about American soldiers going off to Europe: How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen "Paree"? Her love of Alaska is only exceeded by her quest for fame.

Palin said, "I will do what the people of Alaska want me to do.". Well....the people of the lower 48 wants you to go away
12:18 PM on 11/13/2008
The REPUBLICAN party wants her to go away. The rest of us want her to run for some more positions so her opponent can be elected with a LANDSLIDE.

Hopefully the people of Alaska want you to go away as much as the other 49 states do!!!

The hypocrisy remains post election. Paulson lied and we knew it when he first opened his vulgar lips. Bush remains despicable, ignorant, and proud. Obama is not Jesus. Our economic situation is reaching biblical proportions and the Right wants to spin why that is. They astonishingly presume to be able to paint a legitimate picture of Obama malfeasance before he is actually in office. Some in the Proposition 8 outrage sandbox might find that argument alluring based on sand distribution. They might join the Lady Rothschild on the isle of hypocritical existence and “It is my way or I am taking my toys and going home” politics, or “I might stop off at my sworn enemies’ house and make an allegiance with the devil” calculations.

With the economic storm, the fact that we are in a world where some have grievances with the U.S. that would invite them to engage in the grotesque and horrific, the crisis in child-rearing (broken families) and education (separate and unequal) in this country, and a whole host of other major hurdles looming, we still do not get it. We continue to think we can play the same old silly games of drama king and queen, and one monkey stops show, division in existence and legislation...politics.

Everybody stop, look, what’s that sound? That is Minnesota bridges falling down. That is a homeless person on the ground. That is America dumbing-down in a flood of consumption that distracts.

It is indeed hotter than July and beauty is in the air as are hints of winter. “Lately”, I have had the strangest feeling. I just never understood, how a man who died for good, could not have a day that would, be set aside for his recognition -- A man who knocked me off my feet with his power, his grace, and his dignity, a man who soared with his rocket love and never came back down. All we can do is send one our love with a dozen roses and make sure that they know it with a flower from our heart.

Sarah Palin - ....My life is in God's hands. If he's got doors open for me, THAT I BELIEVE ARE IN THE STATE'S BEST INTEREST, THE NATION'S BEST INTEREST, I'm going to go through those doors."

So, following God's Will is conditional?

She gets scarier every time she speaks. Now she is not only claiming to follow God's Will (which is frightening enough), but also injecting her own will into it.

Shall we anticipate Sarah Palin / God to run for the ticket in 2012?

No. She appoints her *loyal* high school friends.

Palin came back to the lower 48 again?
How much did Alaska pay to haul her kids down there?
Was her kids invited (wink... wink) to the convention?
10:25 PM on 11/12/2008
As I understand it [it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong] it's against the law for her to appoint herself, any family member or anyone else. Of course the law or ethics haven't stopped her before.
