Acme Missionary Baptist Church on the South Side beat out 10 other churches from across the country to be named best choir in the nation.
The contest, held in Atlanta over the weekend, was judged by Grammy-winning artists Marvin Sapp and Hezekiah Walker and actress Gabrielle Union. The church will receive $25,000.
"It was a nervous feeling but God himself looked down on this local church at the corner of Vincennes and gave us favor," the church said on its Web site. "Acme, it's our time and season."
