Palin

Sarah Palin said today that she doesn't want to comment on the strategy behind the McCain/Palin campaign now that it's over, which is too bad, because that's basically the only thing (besides her aspirations for 2012, and snow machines) that anyone wants to talk to her about. BUT! That doesn't mean she's ready to give up on the stock stump speech she gave over and over again on the trail, though, apparently to the utter bafflement of reporters who are, by now, really bored to tears with the travails of Tito The Builder.

Jonathan Capehart told MSNBC's David Shuster, "I watched her entire speech, and I had to remind myself that the election was a week ago, and this was not a McCain/Palin rally." Is that crazy white-haired lady who thought Obama was "an Arab" a Republican Governor? Probably! "Everything you heard at a McCain/Palin rally since she was selected as the Vice Presidential nominee since September, and even down to the same rhetoric was in that speech," said Capehart.

Jonathan Martin added that Palin's speech was "perplexing" and "jarring," which are the two nicest things ever said about a Palin speech. He added that he wasn't "sure if she wanted to, you know, re-litigate the past campaign or look forward and diagnose where the party should go from here. And it was sort of a little bit of both, but also neither."

Capehart added, "She needs to stop." And, according to David Shuster, 52% of people polled agree that it's time for Sarah Palin to go home. By contrast, 45% say they can't get enough of her. Funny how those numbers seem to correspond with another large accounting of the American electorate that was recently taken!

I read an article that explains why many of us find Palin-speak so utterly annoying...

I just wanted to pass along something that someone posted yesterday. It's an article: "Quotable: Sarah Palin's Top 10 Bloopers". It's on http://politicalnewsconnection.com/. Very, very funny.

The odds of Palin being a viable presidential candidate in 2012 are slim to none. Aside from her obvious lack of qualifications, the historic reality paints a bigger picture for us. First off, a year in politics is a lifetime, let alone four. Secondly, ask John Edwards, Dan Quayle, Joe Lieberman and other losing candidates of the past just how well that works out. The political landscape has changed. We're living in the most diverse, multi-cultural America ever, and Sarah Palin is an ideologue who only appeals to the base of the Republican party. The Nov 4 election drove that point home. She's part of the problem, not the solution. The only hope for the Republican party is to purge itself of the religious right and the rest of the extremist loons that have hijacked it over the past 25 years. It would be an ugly civil war, but a decade from now, the Republican party would be much better off than it is right now. I'd love to see that happen. Anyway, that's my two cents. Hello everyone. I'm a new poster here. Great site.

To Peggyleg, please read the verses below, and tell me why you still maintain that Sarah Palin is a true Christian.

Romans 16:17-18 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

The problem is not that you are a Christian. I know some true Christians. They are wonderful, caring, empathetic, and conscious people. The problem is that you aren't conscious. Conscious people accept different faiths and look for common ground with true believers in those faiths. This is the basis of being a liberal. Jesus was a liberal. (See the parable of the good Samaritan.)

I have a close man friend who is a Catholic. We have wonderful discussions about our different faiths. I am a Wiccan. (No, no Wiccans believe in Satan, no matter what lies you may have heard. Please don't attack me with your willful ignorance for being one.) I see depths in my friends faith which deepen my beliefs; he sees and accepts my love for Mother Earth and for nature. He is fully conscious of the sacred energy that connects all humans and that connects all faiths, as am I. That is what being a true Christian and a true liberal is all about. It is about tolerance, not prejudice.

By the way, it's absolutely true that America is NOT a Christian nation. The founders were mostly deists. They had seen what torture, pain, death, and destruction religious dogmatists had caused and were still causing in Europe and wanted none of it for our hopeful new country. That is what the First Amendment is about. It is the greatest achievement of our founding fathers.

What publisher in their right mind would bring a book to market about this woman?
There is nothing about this woman that would compel anyone to read such drivel.

Palin is an opportunist plain and simple. She is a calculating politician who feels that she is now a major figure on the national stage. If that's who the republicans want to latch onto I say awesome. She will be easy to defeat in any national election. Even the Alaskans are saying the person she became on the campaign trail is not the same person they elected. I've noticed her words when she answers reporters questions, take notice of how she usually puts herself first when she responds, and then country, family, faith. I've noticed this a few times and then afterwards after someone obviously told her about it she changed the order. People like her who morph into different behaviors usually have major emotional/mental issues and her quest for power is scary.

I was raised in the 60's and 70's...very traditional family. My dad was a police officer and my mom was a housewife. There are 6 of us kids, and even though we didn't have a lot of money, we were happy and loved and provided for.

Now I am grown, and I realize the values that my parents instilled in all of us kids. Right is right and wrong is wrong. This has nothing to do with intelligence, political correctness or "equal opportunity". It has to do with what we, as humans, are supposed to believe in and to live everyday.

The poison and down-right mean-spiritness that I have witnessed and been subjected to on this site is wrong. Bottom Line. No ands, ifs, or buts. My faith keeps me going . My family is everything to me, and they give me strength.
This is what motivates Sarah Palin. The need to do the right thing, even if it is not the fashionable thing to do at the moment. She loves her family and this is where she gets her strength from. This and her faith. I realize it is "funny" to libs to make fun of christians, but it really doesn't bother the christian that is being made fun of. Libs don't understand christians. They have no concept of anything bigger than themselves. Too bad for them. And until the libs understand this, they will NEVER "get" Sarah Palin. It is beyond their comprehension.

I don't think that anyone would condemn you for your devotion to both your faith and to your family. For most people (granted, not all) the issue with Ms. Palin is her sheer lack of intellectual qualification for the job to which she was asking to be elected to. While her devotion (like yours) to her family an her faith is admirable and something most "Libs" can respect, it does not solely qualify her for higher political office. What you need to understand Miss is the separation between church and state. I have concept of many things higher than myself, most relevant here is the concept of the needs of the our nation as a whole. This is not a christian nation, this is a nation of many faiths, a nation of diverse individuals that deserves to be lead by QUALIFIED individuals dedicated to preserving the religious and cultural diversity this nation represents. I for one believe that this election was a defeat to the backward thinking, exclusionist, conservative religious mindset. I respect your faith in your religion, you should respect my faith in this diverse nation where your needs, your faith, and your family is but one of many.

If you voted for BO, you just proved yourself irrelevant, as well asyour point. BO has absolutly NO EXPERIENCE that would lend itself as a qualification for being POTUS..his ivy league education is NOT a prerequisite...Bush has a degree from Harvard and Yale, yet Libs think he is dumb as dirt...

I have respect for all Americans, unlike the liberals...I can not tell you how many times I am bashed for being Christian, I would NEVER cfriticize ANYONE'S faith, or even lack of. Being Christian doesn't automatically mean one is backward thinking or exclusional, on the contrary, it means that you accept people and their way of thinking. It doesn't mean that one necessarily has to subscirbe to that way of thinking, but christians do have morals and character and not only talk the talk, they walk the walk. I am really amazed by the way it is so politically acceptable to bash people of faith by calling them ignorant, backward, and so on. It leads me to believe that the majority of liberals are intimidated by Christians, and they flat don't understand what faith is all about. And I find that to be very sad.

Well said Joe. What irritates so many people is the religious whack jobs who want to mix their religion with governening and that is wrong. They just don't understand that their views aren't any more important or significant than anyone elses. They feel they are entitled to govern because they have God on their side--absurd. I'm an ardent believer of separation of church and state--thankfully our founding fathers knew the consequences of religion and protected our government from their insanity.

This fight will battle on!

you are right, peggyleg, I don't "get" Palin, or you for that matter, when you deride "mean spiritedness" and then go on to imply that only you and those who think like you hold to "what we, as humans, are supposed to believe in and to live everyday."
then, to further your divisive tone and theme, you impart one more shot about "Libs don't understand christians..." What garbage. As a "Lib: AND a Christian, I can tell you that what I and others don't understand is the way a "christianist," which you apparently ARE, can wrap themselves in the Holy Word and an American Flag and deem yourself better than us.

Sarah is motivated by Sarah, and is easily observable by her behavior. Sarah invokes God to add credibility to what she says, not to who she is. Sarah's being called out on behavior which she refuses to acknowledge. Research on Palin and her poltical history reveals even more.

This is not a Christian nation, but a secular nation with many Christians.

Great stuff peggyleg. I was also raised in the 50s, 60s and 70s. My father was a WWII vet, spent 36 straight months fighting in combat. Mom was a housewife and great mom. I followed pop, was a Marine vet, former police officer, etc. We all have strong faith.
BUT, this background and traits don't make a politician. Sarah Palin is honestly not qualified to be the President, VP or a governor. I "GET" her, and so does most of America. The election results prove that we all "GET" her.

I find the "intellectually in-curious" Sarah Palin a complete and utter joke. She may have not excelled in acadamia, but her lack of basic knowledge is beyond the pale. Before you open your mouth on the public stage, you need to at least have to have a basic grasp of world geography. My son knows that Africa is a continent. He is in the third grade. And this woman is the "Great White Hope" and future of the Republican party? How funny and sad. And her Christian stance has nothing to do with why she was rejected by the MAJORITY of the American people.

I'm starting to feel the teensiest bit sorry for her... I think someone really needs to explain to her, in the very simplest terms, why exactly people are still "interested" in what she has to say. Oooh - I know! Anyone know how to say "Rubbernecking" in Inuit?

It would be nice if we could pay no attention to her and let her fade away.
however, she is like a circus side show and there is that morbid curiosity
plus if she is on any Repub ticket, that will help the Dems

she is a classic example of "mouth in motion before brain is in gear"
she has a bag of rhetoric, catch phrases which she pulls out and strings together, not necessarily in any logical fashion, throws it out there and tricks a small percentage into thinkig she has actually said something

how she got this far boggles my mind

Go read something besides HufPo and educated yourself....your ignorance is obvious.

Peggyleg---You and Sarah Palin appear to have a lot in common...the election is over, the populace has spoken...move one. Let it go. What I don't understand from conservatives, alleged Christians, neocons, etc. If you love this country as much as you proclaim, why not now try to work collectively to rebuild it instead of focusing on 2012?? We are in dire straits and you people seem intent to re-live the election (again, its over). I don't get.

I also don't get how "christians" proclaim to adhere to the words of Jesus Christ, yet, they do everything but...
