HBO Films is developing a biopic about Katharine Graham, the late publisher of the Washington Post who oversaw the paper's Watergate coverage leading to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

The untitled project, which is in the very early stages of development, is being written by Joan Didion and will follow Graham's ascendancy to the top post at the newspaper.

I worked for the WP for 23 years starting in 1973 pre Watergate, as sales rep and not on the level of editorial staff. I had the pleasure to know Mrs Graham and on occasions played tennis with her and her son Don, I also had a few cocktails with her and she treated the staff like family. She would stop in the hall and have a chat with you and ask about family and how you were doing. Those where the days when the WP was a family run business. Any tribute without including the way she treated the general staff would not do justice to the wonderful and loving way we at the WP felt towards this outstanding business person and lovely person. Today"s business executives could learn a lot about running their business if could have been with in that work environment. GOD BEST YOU KATE.

You've been had by a publicist. The script exists. I've seen it. It's terrible. This is not in early stages. Maybe in rewrite? They're trying to drum up interest with this press release.

An HBO production will be well done, and I'll watch it! I'm concerned about the 98% of the American population who has no idea who Kathrine Graham was!

I agree that this is great news. Joan Didion is brilliant and throughout her career she has delved intelligently into the subjects of power, money, family relationships, and female angst. This is an assignment tailor-made for her. Work quickly, Ms. Didion, we can't wait!

This will be an outstanding production only if it completely accurate, warts and all.

Too many of these 'Documentaries' have just enough fiction in them to make the entire story seem to be pure Hollywood.

Hopefully, former Florida Sen. Graham, half brother to Katherine's deceased husband, will provide some genuine perspective. This man has knowledge of things that even "Deep Throat" would like to divulge from the grave.

So, let's hear it.

Cool, Laura Linney's playing Graham. :) Apparently 'Bob' on the source site message board didn't see her in "John Adams", another HBO instant classic. I love Joan Didion -- Play It As It Lays and Salvador are my favs of her books.
