Bobby Jindal

CBS News:

When asked about the future course of the Republican Party following their losses on Election Day - losing not only the White House but also considerable ground in the House and Senate - Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana said it is imperative his party offers solutions to voters, and not just be the opposition.

"As Republicans, we need to do three things to get back on track," he said on CBS' Face The Nation. "Number one, we have got to stop defending the kind of spending and out-of-control spending that we would never tolerate in the other side. You know, when voters tell us that they trust Democrats more to cut their taxes [and] control spending, that tells you something is wrong with the Republican Party. We've got to match our actions with our rhetoric.

if the GOP thinks that Jindal or Palin are their next political saviors then they are more out of touch than imaginable

Jindal is as wacky as Palin and just as much of a wacky ideologue and he is nothing but another sleazy republican hypocrite

Jindal has a lot of drt under his nails and hidden in his closet

Few points: 1. Jindal is obviously in the wrong party. He's pleading for his party to do the impossible, ie, become more compassionate with middle class Americans, which is difficult to do when your party's reputation is that it goes to bed with big business. 2. Palin is not intelligent. 3. Until the GOP acknowledges that their religious base's tight grip on the party is what's holding them back, there will never be any real intellectual discourse within that party and they will always have to give in to the demands of the base which is out of step with the rest of America, which is fine by me.

If I were a Republican I'd vote for Jindal over Palin in a second. But this is an obvious political ploy by Rethugs desperate for new faces; Jindal is running, like, a billion dollar deficit in Louisiana, so even though it's clear he understands what the problem is, it is entirely unclear that he is willing to do anything about it or even has any clue how to solve it.

Bobby Jindall could be the GOP's answer to Barack Obama. Smart, of an ethnic background, I can see him running for high office some day. Voters have broken the racial barrier with Obama's landslide so Jindall, who may have felt little chance, is probably now among the hopefuls. I noticed in the last two hurricanes that threatened New Orleans, Jindall and Nagin worked seamlessly to move fast if need be. If I were a Republican, I would want to see those like Pawlinty and Jindall touted up for major office - not a dangerously ignorant woman from Alaska.

Jindal is nowhere on the scale of Barack Obama.

And just the fact that you had to point out that Jindal has d ark skin makes it blatantly obvious that Jindal is another gimmick candidate: we just elected the first minority President, so Americans will vote for ANY minority now? We all saw what happened when Sarah Palin was nominated for VP: she did virtually nothing to help the base.

Comparing Jindal to Obama is like comparing Sarah Palin to Bill Clinton, Jindal is more of the status quo with his views being the virtual same as Sarah Palin's. Jindal has NO chance of winning at the national level, especially with the r ight wing base who h ates ANY candidate of color, even if they are Republicans. I can even see these same McCain/Palin people calling Jindal a M uslim and saying he pals around with t errorists, Jindal is more problematic if the GOP decides to run him on the national level.

I'm a conservative.I live in Northeast but, I lived in Louisiana for over thirty years. Bobby Jindal would be an excellent candidate in the next presidential election.
You brought up his ethnicity, he is Indian by heritage. He went to school in Baton Rouge, and attends Church locally. In Louisiana the black population is as racist as the white population is. The fact that he was elected there is a ringing endorcement of his extreme charisma and likeability.
There was a piece in May about Governor Jindal as he was on McCain's short list for VP. The only real criticism that was levied was that he voted for a complete ban on abortion when he was a State Representative. They called it a bad political move. The truth is, that is honestly how he feels. That is the platform on which he ran, as a candidate who finds all life sacred. Whether you agree or not, it is admirable that he votes the way he does based on his actual convictions, not the most popular one.
I think that we, as a country, are ready for a conservative President, who spends conservatively, who cuts taxes only when we can afford the cuts. We are dooming our country if we don't find a way to get out from under this extreme debt.
I voted for O'bama, even though I disagree with his stance on some important issues, because I believe him to be a moral man.

Yes, there is something wrong with them, but there's something even more wrong with you for not realizing that before you called yourself one.

I hope a journalist ask Jindal what his position is on affirmative action. His mother was hired in Louisiana government in the 70s because of affirmative action. I'm not saying she wasn't quailified but I'm from Louisiana and I know how impossible for non-whites to obtain professional jobs during the early 70s.

I'd like to hear Jindal give his take on this issue.

Bobby Jindal is pretty smart, in a local sense; he knows the combination of his ethnic background and a membership in the democratic party would make his getting elected governor in Louisiana, unlikely; thus he joined the republican party. Unfortunately, at the national level, the republican base, with its xenophobic tilt, may not support a person of his background. At best, his chance is to be chosen as a GOP running mate.

Either way, the e xtreme right wing who voted for McCain/Palin won't vote for ANY ticket with Jindal on it, since they are against people of color.

Seriously, people keep saying this guy has a chance... he truly doesn't. Just because he has d ark skin doesn't mean the minorities will vote for him, just like the females didn't go out in droves to vote for John McCain because Sarah Palin was his female running mate. Jindal offers no progressive ideas, just more of the same status quo ideas of Sarah Palin and George Bush, as well as wedge issues.

Jindal may be intellectually smart, but he is nowhere on the scale of Barack Obama, not even close. If the Republicans decide to run this guy for President, then they are going to be out of power for a long time to come.

I think the Rethugs are touting him because he doesnt (yet) have any skeletons in his closet to speak of. If his parents were nearly as strict as mine, he's a goody two shoes, as far as scandals are concerned.

But the GOP is showingits prejudice once again. Palin and McCian touted r@cism as the way to be during their campaign, encouraging all white folks to suspect and hate. Now, the GOp sees the error of their ways and is touting one of the only minority GOP out there.

When will their r@cism end?

How will Jindal get the real american's vote? I guess that's where Sara come in. Please don't let her go away. She is good for the Democrats and she is great for comedy.

Give Jindal his due. He also said the GOP was "fired with cause".

Watch out for this guy. He is extremely smart. I would never vote for him because he represents the fanatical right wing ideology when it comes to social issues such as womens' rights and separation of church and state. If they make him the face of the republican party, there will be true competition in some conservative republican areas.

I have to agree. He is very well spoken and extremely intelligent but scares me to death with his far right beliefs (check his voting records). However, I'm not sure how well the base would take to nominating an Indian American.

On our side, Cory Booker is a rising star that I think would be a contender for 2016.

Agree...Unless the rest of those dysfunctional republicans, this guy 'gets it'. And that last hurricane, unlike the past (including Katrina of course) this time Louisiana was totally prepared. This guy is way way better then anything Louisiana has ever had.

Who are you kidding? Louisiana is still a virtual mess since this guy became their governor.

And no, Jindal doesn't "get it", he is a virtual repeat of Sarah Palin, sharing the same virtual views.

Plus if color was an issue with the right wing concerning Obama, then it will be an even bigger issue with Jindal, how come the GOP hasn't run any minority candidates for President? They know a good chunk of their base are r acists and wouldn't vote for ANYONE of color, even if they were Republicans. You didn't see blacks cheering on Condoleeza Rice even though she is black did you?

Seriously, Jindal has no chance at the national level, he is just as much a sacrificial lamb as Sarah Palin was this year. I hope the Republicans run this guy, turn all 50 states a nice shade of blue.

Exactly. What isn't? My husband who has ALWAYS been a Republican is jumping ship and becoming a Democrat. The GOP party is no longer the part of business and less government. It's funny how things change!

OMG having one single minority means DIVERSITY????

Diversity means you don't have to point out the minorities because there are so many.
