Hungry Child

News Net:

New government figures show that almost 700,000 children went hungry in the United States at some point in 2007, up more than 50 percent from the year before to mark the highest point since 1998. And that's even before this year's sharp economic downtown, the Agriculture Department reported Monday.

The department's annual report on food security showed that during 2007 the number of children who suffered a substantial disruption in the amount of food they typically eat was more than double the 430,000 in 2006 and the largest figure since 716,000 in 1998.

Money for wars, bailouts, tax cuts but no money for poor hungry children. Shameful. Where are all the anti-choicers when the kids that they force/cajole women to have are going hungry? When the religious nuts were pouring money into Prop 8, kids were starving. Nice. WWJD?!?!?

And yes, I absolutely do blame the Repugs for the economic mess that this country is in. There is a direct correlation between the rise in poverty, the tax cuts for the wealthy and the trilliions that will eventually be poured into Iraq.

I am so angry about this. If you want to help and you have the money, PLEASE donate to your local food bank. People are suffering and we have to do something about it. Visit http://feedingamerica.org/default.aspx?show_shov=1 to find your local food bank NOW.

2007. The same year Goldman Sachs' employees shared in $19 billion in bonuses. The CEO took home $68 million and the two co-presidents took home $67 million. How do these people live with themselves. I'm sure they say it's just those lazy, unemployed people who are always looking for government hand outs. Wait, Goldman Sachs just got a handout. Hmmmm

If the anti-abortion and anti-marriage equality activists are so "pro-life" and "pro-family" maybe they could start using the millions of dollars they raise to take away people's rights and use it instead to stop the child hunger rate in this country from increasing another 50% this year.

sing it with me...........I'm proud to be an American...
Well I'm proud to be an American
Where so many children are hungry
And I won't forget the CEO's who lied
Who live in luxury
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend them still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I've lost my mind,
God bless the me-me-me.

Not bad.
I heard the government is doing something about this...
Bush and Cheney appointees are being converted to permanent civil service jobs so their kids will never go hungry.
Bailout money is being used to pay bonuses to CEOs so their kids will never go hungry.
More tax breaks and environmental exemptions are going to oil companies, on top of the biggest profits ever seen in the history of the world, so there are some more kids of executives that wont go hungry.
And just so we see our government understands this is a global problem, we are pumping hundred of millions of dollars into foreign regimes, knowing the vast majority of that money will be used to support dictators and their military commanders, so their kids are looking good.
The other 99.9% of the kids at risk - need to work harder and focus on the American dream.

What happened to all the obese kids we were complaining about just a few weeks ago and prompted LA to ban new resturants in certain areas?

Hungry children is tragic but it is not the responsibility of the government to feed them, that is the responsibility of the parents. If the government didn't seize so much of our income in taxes we would all have more money and their would be fewer hungry people.

Now I know why they are called jar heads.

Yes, the children have no food? Let their parents feed them cake! Perfect.

By the way, it was the seizure of my income taxes that paid your salary and provided you with free medical and dental benefits and training.

Fast food isn't "food". It's hyper-processed garbage with no nutritional value and injurious amounts of sodium, saturated fat, sugar and simple carbs. The food industry has conned the government into subsidizing production of this c r a p so it's cheap. Actual food - vegetables and fruit, whole grains, lean meat - costs a whole lot more and takes time and knowledge to prepare, and people working 3 part time jobs and taking care of kids often have not the time or money to shop carefully for this food, nor the necessary knowledge to prepare it.

Didn't you know? Wars and bank bailouts don't cost anything. Food for hungry children, however, is "fiscal irresponsibility".

News is exaggerating the problem for political purposes. It's never good to anyone go hungry but this is not a political issue liberals can put on Republicans.

Children who need food are the first who deserve a 'bailout'. To even consider giving money to banks and automakers while the numbers of hungry children continue to increase is beyond imagination. Our political leaders are complete failures in not making feeding children the First priority. Obama, the Democrats and Republicans are talking about bailing out greedy inept corporations while our children are hungry. None of them derserve to be in office. Feed the children. Take care of the people first. If policies don't begin from this imperative then they are corrupt, inept, failures.

This is why I"m not 100% pro-life. If a mother doesn't care enough to give birth and we force her, this is exactly where many children will end up.... homeless, hungry.. and abuse. I guess we should start collecting money from the pro-life gang and feed these children.

If there is one thing that should get people to take part in their Constitutional right to involve themselves in this nation's governmental process, this should be it. No matter what god you may or may not believe in, what side of the political fence you're on or whatever causes you prioritize over others, please keep this one cause on your list. It is to each and every American's shame that there are citizens of this country that go hungry. That great beacon of freedom and hope we shine onto the world should never be held out of sight of our own.

Republicans don't care about hungry, homeless children. Remember when Gingrich floated the work houses and orphanage idea? Once you're born you're off the Republican radar. For the GOP you're just no longer important after you're born.

More young children hungry in America.

Mission accomplished, and the GOP carves yet another notch in their elephant....

In Graham Hancock book "The Lords of Poverty" less than $.50 of every dollar goes to the poor from charities most goes to overhead. That is why I don't give to every charity that says they help the poor because most of the money goes to salaries and cost ot put on lavish events.
