WASHINGTON -- What does an accomplished man of the world get for his 66th birthday?

Well, President-elect Barack Obama already gave Joe Biden the vice presidency. So, for his birthday, Obama gave Biden two ball caps and a rendition of the birthday song.

Biden's birthday is Thursday, but Obama surprised his No. 2 after their weekly lunch Wednesday at the transition office in Chicago. According to staff, Obama presented Biden _ a Delaware senator with decades of foreign policy experience _ with a dozen cupcakes decorated with candles and teased, "You're 12 years old!"

Staff reported that Biden, ever astute in the art of politics, laughed at the his boss's joke. He responded: "Maybe in dog years!"

Obama led the rest of the staff in song, then handed over some Chicago-themed gifts: a White Sox cap, a Bears cap and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn, a hometown favorite.

I love Biden's smile. It's beautiful. And the new President doesn't have a bad one either. Their smiles look genuine and there's nothing secret behind them. It's been a long time since we seen an honest smile from our government.

how nice that the lizard people will soon be leaving the White House. Joe has a lot of work to do in fumigating Cheney's buners & lairs...

This Thanksgiving let's all thank God for that two decent human beings will be taking over in January.

I just wish it would happen sooner.

They're going to make a great team. I had the opportunity to chat with Biden over drinks once some years ago. Great guy. Very interesting and genial. I've been rooting for him since 1988.

Methinks Michelle and the girls may have had something to do with the cupcakes. The Biden grandchildren and the Obama girls are very close. It was rumored that they had a blast setting up a "tent city" together in on of their hotel rooms during the Dem convention. Don't know if that actually occured, but what I do know is...

there are decent, kind people at the helm of our great nation once again.

I love these two men and wish them great blessings. They are going to need everyone's patience and support. Look at the mess they will inherit on January 20...... god help them.
Glad to see they can take time out to smile and enjoy the friendship.

Yes, Biden referred to the sleepover in a speech he gave in Florida - it's on the campaign website, notable for the cute little boy who did a school project covering the event and interviewing Biden. You should check it out - Biden's interview answers were priceless! Watch how the little boy is entranced by his answers. Biden's affinity for kids is obvious... I think that may in part come from having to do the job of both parents when his first wife died =(

Anyway, along with Mr. Vice President-Elect, his other name is "Pop" =)

Thank God for humans winning the Whitehouse.

Well even if it was one of his zillion staffers or a bring-up on the blackberry, yes he is thoughtful. A born leader.
