Ever wonder what Michael Phelps smells like?

People magazine, which has a history of experimenting with sensory advertising within its pages, is set to publish a "scratch-n-sniff" section in its Sexiest Man Alive issue.

The magazine, which hits newsstands on Friday, includes a section dubbed "Sexy Scents" with "scratch-n-sniff" photos of Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford, film actor Taye Diggs, Law & Order star Chris Meloni and U.S. Olympic Team swimmer Michael Phelps--each of whom "describe the fragrance that makes them feel their sexiest." (Crawford chose freshly cut grass, telling the magazine he "grew up playing a lot of football and golf ... When I smell freshly cut grass I get this air of competition. It wakes me up, gets me going"; Diggs "loves vanilla, chocolate, sandalwood and musk essential oils.")

Geee...another "sexiest man alive" who happens to have a big movie coming out the same week. Think People owes a few publicists some favors?

This stuff is b.s., mostly because once again, I was snubbed.

When open up the magazine to scratch-n-sniff the scratch-n-sniff areas of the pages, remember that it is just a fantasy. A brief escape from the reality that awaits you in the other room.

The manliest scent is "Fromunda."

Taye Diggs left nipple was vanilla-musky
Christopher Meloni's deltoid was coconutty

Why is the sexist man or woman always a movie star, from or living in the United States? Do they ever look at, say, the rest of the world to see if they can find an ordinary and beautiful person?

It makes sense they would choose a celebrity. They are, after all, in the celebrity business. It would be difficult for them to pick someone they don't know about it.

By the way, their first "Sexiest Man Alive" was Sean Connery. NOT an American.

lo these many years later, Connery is still sexy

As sexy as Sean Connery was and is, he was not People's first "Sexiest Man Alive"; it was Mel Gibson. It should have been Paul Newman, in my opinion!

I just got my issue of People, and the scratch and sniff feature is much ado about very little. However, I do like this year's choice for "Sexiest Man Alive"--it took People long enough to appreciate Hugh Jackman's charms!

By the way, I've always wondered--why does People call it 'Sexiest Man Alive" if the previous year's choice is still living the following year?? Does that mean that Brad Pitt, George Clooney, et. al. took ugly pills??

saw this today at the hair salon. After I stopped laughing hysterically, I took a whiff of Christopher Meloni's "Seaside" scent and Taye Diggs "chocolate vanilla musk"
not too bad.

Whoever came up with THAT must have watched that John Waters film "Polyester" one too many times.

You know, the one that with the scratch 'n' sniff cards that prompts you on-screen which number to scratch to get the smell. John Waters called it "Odorrama," but it had its roots in such William Castle innovations as "Emergo," "Percepto" and "Glorious Smell-o-vision."

I'm duly impressed with everyone but I'd rather scratch and sniff some Simi Valley Royal Purple Kush.

No doubt that with the right name/face on the bottle, you could make a fortune marketing Eau de Genitalia.

This fellow would be very popular in any prison.

This may not be so bad. A whiff of Jackman's nether regions could have the same effect as Foldgers coffee in your cup. Y'know, the best part of waking up.

OMG! Even the gay magazines don't have man-scents in their mags... a new trend perhaps?
