There have been letters, discreet inquiries and bold appeals. Some are using their connections; others are just seeking a foot in the door.

It's part of the spirited competition among Washington churches to land the most sought-after Christians in town: the Obama family.

Nice one Btline. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Best option - stay at home and have a lie in on Sundays.

Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.

i think he should attend them all

that would be really great

everyone would get the chance to see him

and he could call himself an "ecumenicist"

After the 24/7 two-year long Reverend Wright media blitz - were I the Obamas, I would just stay home. In 2012 the Republicans will be tearing apart whatever church he and his family attend over the next four years while conveniently ignoring Sarah Palin's witch doctor, Bobby Jindahl's exorcist; and the history of Mitt Romney's Mormon church.

I hope in the future we can have an atheist president...

I'd settle for an agnostic.

Why? I personally would always want a President that believes in something greater than he or she.

I'd say let them actually get into town and moved in before pressing them to make such a personal decision. They will likely pick a church closest to their own spiritual values and one not looking to capitalize from their attendance.

The Obama ladies dress in ugly colors. Dark, forboding and harsh....especially on the girls.

I thought the same thing about the palin family, except for (sarah's shiney red jacket, & SHOES ) ,poor Willow had that 1 gray dress, even when her little sister was dressed for haloween in the snow princess costume.

I guess if you don't care for them, and this is the only criticism you can pull out...sad.

"Talk about God bless America, no, no, no, no, no not God bless America, God *beep* America"

all those Wright ads put out by the GOP in the final week was futile. LMAO. It might even had an reverse affect.

I belong to the UCC church in my city. I went to Trinity in Chicago for a few weeks while I was there on business.
I am white.
I was welcomed warmly. The service was positive and inspirational. The choir rocked! It was an outstanding experience of faith and unity. I didn't hear ONE negative word about America or anything else negative while there. The parishioners were devout and loving. The families were strong and caring.

I think the five or ten words that Rev. Wright said that have been replayed over and over were maybe .00000000001% of what ever went on in that church. I think the congregation was unfairly demonized by the clowns in the Right wing media.

I once went to Church with a friend (a Republican friend) after GW Bush was elected in 2000. I expected the Congregation to be more conservative than me but NOTHING could have prepared me for what was going on there. The congregation was passing around a mic giving testimonials to George Bush just like he was Jesus Christ. I was floored!! I have never seen anything like this in a church of any kind before. I prayed they didn't give the mic to me because all I could say was 'Well I pray for ALL the Presidents to be healthy and successful'.
I never went back.

I pray the Obamas will find a loving Church home to raise their girls and give them faith and strength.

God bless America.

Woodrowwest, no one with an ounce of intelligence didn't understand what Reverend Wright was saying -- or why he said it. Smart Republicans understood the Reverend perfectly well, but used the comment to inflame racists and bellicose flag-wavers.

I'm a 57-year-old white American who praises America when America merits praise. The rest of the time, I'm goddamning it with gusto.

How about just watching NFL Football on Sundays instead. Can you hang a dish on the roof of the White House?

Who would Jesus hate? Those pathetic quacks soil his good name. No more tax exemption for hatred.

To all who say that the Obama's shouldn't go to church should first of all mind your own business. As a people (Black) the church is the town square of our people... why you ask? Because that was the only place the oppressive race would allow the slaves and the second class congregate. When we fought against Jim Crow we fought from the church. Now you people want us to forget where we came from... sorry we have this saying in the Black Community, "Never forget where you came from because you will forget where you are going!" Also respect the Obama's and the millions of us who believe and actually like going to church!

As an Atheist, I don't understand why people are stating he shouldn't go to church. I mean, the man believes, why should he stop believing now? Anyways, I think many of the churches want him for the crowds he's going to bring. Good business. ;)

Which ever church that Jeramiah Wright moves to will be the one they choose. He is a free agent now.

Since they are many who still believes he is a muslim why not go to a Mosque. But alas he should stay away from ALL churches. I suspect he will be too busy anyways.

Since you mention the matter of the muslim myth, here is a fact about Muslims: Did you know that if you are genuinely a Muslim you cannot deny the faith? How about that?
