Existing home sales continue in the Chicago metro area fell 17.7 percent from a year ago to 5,397 sales in October properties -- while the median price drop 10 percent
The median price of single-family and condominiums during the month fell to $225,000 in the nine-county Chicago market.
The sales decline was even more severe within the city of Chicago, where home sales plummeted 21.6 percent, to 1,535 sales of single-family homes and condos. The median price within the city was $260,000, down 9.1 percent from October 2007.
