"No dollars for hate!"

That's what protesters chanted as they marched up and down the street outside Century Theatres, 1715 Maple Ave., on Saturday night. Armed with pride flags, picket signs and banners, about 400 people came to protest a $9,999 donation that Cinemark CEO Alan Stock made to the Yes on 8 campaign.

"If you're going to target our community with hate, whether it's Prop. 8 or any other measure going forward, it's no longer going to be without consequences," said Andy Thayer, Weinberg '85, the co-founder of Chicago's Gay Liberation Network. "We are going to hit you in the pocketbook just the way you hit us in terms of our rights."

--- " because we want to keep marriage for homosexual couples ".

i don't remember the LDS or Catholic churches having a trademark on "marriage".

maybe the gay community should trademark the act of "TITHING".
no one will be able to swipe that 10% of church member's salaries anymore.

Why not work with what you have already?
So, if you have Civil Unions in California, why not make them better?

I believe I've seen polls that say Americans think Civil Unions for gays would be ok but calling it marriage isn't so why not work with what folks can agree with rather than shoot for something that almost no one else agrees with.

Your fellow Americans are much more worried about our jobs being lost than about gays worrying that they can't be married.

Wrong time to be messing around with this and as a non-gay I can tell you that you are just making yourselves look bad.

P.S. Threats of retaliation aren't going to get you anywhere...not in this economic climate.

it's not seperate but equal so your point is moot

Everyone against the term "marriage" for gays should be fighting for civil unions to have the same benefits.

They are not - because this is really about homophobia

I have a new proposition that bans people from getting married when they believe in magical beings that mold our world, make decisions for us, fortell the ending of our time, say slavery is okay, are part of a Galactic Federation that has been around for over 80 million years, or believes in turning the other cheek but eye for an eye. Lets ban marriages between couples that are 15 years in age difference. Cause, that can't end well. Oh, you're skin color is not the same as hers, sorry, no marriage for you. A Catholic and a Jew want to marry? Oi Vey, Your savior and their human would disapprove I am sure. See, when you base you're opinion on the mere fact of what you're religion tells you, you sound silly and certainly don't have the best interest of humans in mind.

lolol, I love these scared yocals who say they don't hate for not wanting gays to marry. They say things like "Unions are ok, but marriage is not!" And we all know why, cause marriage is a joke. Has been for some time now with such high divorce ratings. The word marriage apparently belongs to religion now. You will have to pay royalties just for saying it. Oh, and Union and Marriage have the same definition pretty much. So let's see, we just spent how much money over the definition of a word in the eyes of religous people and gay people. Congratulations everyone for wasting enough money to save hundreds of homes and jobs on a basic right. Let the religous folks have their joke "marriage" gays, take Union and show them how it is done. Cause when the rate of divorce in unions are low, strait people like myself will pause and say "Union, that sounds pretty good to me."
Say No to Prop H8, Prop 2, and any other prop banning a human right.

How sad for you. What is it like to live with hate in your soul?

I hate no one! Why is considering gay "marriage" wrong hateful? This is my opinion, and apparently the opinion of most Americans and Californians. Are all of us hateful because we want to keep marriage for heterosexual couples? Civil unions are fine, just not marriage.

Yes the people have made it so that gay people can die alone while their partner of 40 years is prohibited from seeing them.

THAT'S what the vote does. It doesn't matter what you think of gay marriage - you took basic civil liberties away.

If you're happy about that - you are really inhumane.

These votes to discriminate against a segment of society in America have done the country's image terrible harm and really offset the fact an African American was elected President.

Some how sometime Americans are going to have to free themselves from the bigotry and hate propagated by the Evangelicals and their desire to mold society in their warped opinions of how it should be.

Let's face these people still trying to portray the world as only being 6,000 years old is similar to people still believing the world is flat. They need to come up with a more modern fairy tale to con their congregations with in the future.

I like this campaign. No more "hate" hypocrisy without taking responsibility for your "speech". If you want to curtail a segment of societies civil rights, expect to pay for it.

What civil rights have been violated? I'm curious.

They had a civil right to marry, and it is being taken away.

Right on!
How can anyone argue with a straight face that prop 8 is not a civil rights issue?

It was shocking to me that they even would have to.

too bad they didn't get organized and energized BEFORE the vote on prop 8

Amen - but just like the Stonewall Riots in 1969 - sometimes it just takes a spark.
