WASHINGTON — Vice President-elect Joe Biden said Sunday he had chosen a close adviser of more than 25 years as his counselor and had picked two other longtime political advisers for key posts in his office.

Michael C. Donilon, who was part of Biden's debate preparation team and served as his traveling adviser during the general-election campaign, was named counselor to the vice president. Donilon has worked as a strategist on numerous political campaigns, including Douglas Wilder's successful campaign for Virginia governor in 1989 and Bill Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992.

Terrell P. McSweeny will serve as domestic policy adviser to the vice president, according to a statement from Biden's office. She worked as Biden's deputy chief of staff and policy director in the Senate, where she managed domestic and economic policy development and legislative initiatives, and as his issues director during the general-election campaign. She has advised three presidential candidates, including Wesley Clark and Al Gore.

Evan M. Ryan will be assistant to the vice president for intergovernmental affairs and public liaison, according to the statement. She was an adviser to Biden during the general-election campaign and served as his deputy campaign manager during the primary. Ryan worked on the White House staff from 1994 to 2000, as special assistant to first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's chief of staff, then as deputy director of scheduling.

Ryan later worked with international agencies, including the Clinton Global Initiative in New York and PeacePlayers International, a conflict-management organization. She is also a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Joe, I am so proud of you...so bloody proud. You deserve this and more, and I think we're a pretty lucky nation having you as our Vice President. You're going to be the best. Obama picked Biden first for his team...smart man, Obama. Joe Biden is so multi-talented, and yes, he has a passionate personality to go with those smarts. I'm glad he does, Joe is a breath of fresh political air, so detractors, get over it.. Everyone who wrote that the pundits were way off when writing about Joe Biden, neglecting his accomplishments and talents, you're right. Read what David Brooks (yes, the NYT David Brooks) glowingly wrote about Joe before Obama picked Biden as his running mate. Brooks targeted Biden as the choice...he was right on...and from a uber conservative too. Love ya Joe!.Go gettum Tiger!

So far it seems as if Biden will be involved in EVERYTHING (as it should be).

He has been in on the decision making of every appointment thus far .................... Obama is ensuring that Biden is truly a VICE-President and not just a president-in-waiting should something happen to the President.

We can expect to see Biden very involved with all aspects of governance ...................... Obama and Biden, what a great team.

No more Cheney type of VP .......................... what a relief.

I'm shocked to learn of this startling development.

He picked trusted people to advise him.

I voted for change but really this is a bit radical for me.

lol...I know, whodathunkit! What next? I'm beginning to think all the rumors about Biden are true: intelligent, experienced, honest, and an outstanding choice for America's next Vice President. I'm cringing....

Dangerous change.

Next thing you know the guy is going to insist the Govt follow the Constitution.

If I'd only known ....

Yes, Bring Biden on! If the press had covered Joe's many speeches, Americans would have a much better idea of how invaluable Joe will be to PE Obama. Unfortunately, the press was hot on the trail of Palin to cover her hateful speeches rather than intelligent and emotive town halls and speeches given by Joe. They covered a gaff or two - but nothing in between. Joe will shine!

good for Biden! I hope Obama keeps him and his staff plenty busy. Alot of pundits look down on Joe, and say how he'll be overshadowed by Clinton, but Joe said he wouldn't have taken the job if he didn't ensure he'd do more than the traditional VP role. Barack agreed to keep him busy, and gosh darn it he'll be a visible force in this administration! See ya soon, Joe! :)
