I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Chris Matthews praised the image of diversity coming out of Barack Obama's press conference Monday morning, comparing it to a United Colors of Benetton ad.

Matthews said that Obama "is very aware of the picture he's offering as well as the words" and that his picture Monday morning — three women, three African Americans, one Republican (and someone who has worked with Republicans, in Gen. Jones) — sends a clear message.

"Clearly it has the picture we're looking for, many faces of Benetton or whatever you want to call it," Matthews said, "but clearly representative of America more than previous administrations."

Benetton is a clothing brand known for its inclusive advertising featuring diverse models.

Here's some advice for Matthews: when you have guests on your show, keep your big, drooling, slobbering, spit-flying yap shut long enough so they can get a word in edgewise. The reason for having guests on your show is that these people may have something more intelligent than you to say- HA!

Running for the Senate? Of what state..Bedlam? This guy has been doing interviews on tv for years and still hasn't figured out there is a delay when asking questions of his guests. Keeps talking over himself. Run for the Senate? Is this a joke or what?

I'd say that Mr. Banana Head (aka my leg tingles) is in the early stages of his sucking up compaign.

If he runs for the senate, will he continue to color his hair that stupid bright yellow?

Chris Matthews is a Clinton hater and having Christopher Hitchens on Hardball is an example of how unprofessional Matthews is. I was happy to hear Joan Walsh stand up to Hitchens who's probably not a US citizen and does not have voting rights which makes him irrelevant as well as his sick comments!

Hitchens(as well as Andrew Sullivan) is an American citizen.

Yes it's diverse, but why isn't there any chatter about the troubling "keepers" Those "keepers" are Joe Liberman and Robert Gates? Are they kidding? Lieberman is the ultimate betrayer, disloyal stabber in the back any party had. And Gates has no Democratic redeeming qualities whatsoever. He is straight line Republican military school. Lose 'em!!!

It was a batty thing to say, but really, isn't it what many were thinking? Diverse, but maybe shouldn't have been likened to Benetton. LOL.

I Don't understand the outrage on this thread. I get the reference and it seems accurate and complimentary. And I liked the commercials so much back in the day, I wrote to the company and gave them a thumbs up.

Chris used a metaphor to illustrate that our government and world is finally getting diverse, like the faces in the Benneton ads. And the banners still grace the walls of their stores.

It's Joe's comment that seemed very Tucker Carlson, Pat Buchanan ish.

Yeeps! I can't believe he is the best the Dem party has to offer in PA. Please say it ain't so.

I know he means well, but he always says borderline insensitive things while trying to sound enlightened.

Absolutely. A good leader leads from the center.

Bush is proof-positive that leading from an ideology (be it left or right) will end in disaster. "F-U, I'm in charge!" leadership does not work....!!!!!

During the campaign-two moments stuck out where Chris Matthews REALLY DID play 'Hardball'. The first one was right after the 'September 15 fiasco' where he had Eric Cantor cringing from his continued hammering on "WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?" and the second was when he relentlessly pursued Michelle Bachmann, which forced her to really show what was 'in her heart'. I find MOST of his commentary to be a tad over the top-especially when he gets over enthusiastic and is quite literally drooling over a 'hot' item! Anyway--this was the same Chris Matthews that floated the conspiracy theory of Bill Clinton running for Hillary's empty seat in the Senate once her name was being floated for SOS. Shortly afterward, Mr. Matthews went on vacation. NOW, suddenly, he's not violently AGAINST the Clinton appointment, but not overenthusiastic. He's actually been in the Carter administration--so his references to very old TV commercials seem to be a frame of reference...

Chris Matthews acts like such a weirdo on tv, but during the election I attended a live taping of Hardball at one of the debates in my hometown & he was as nice as can be. He was joking with the crowd. They brought us food. He took pics with us. Mad cool. I think he's just one of those folks who just keeps putting his foot in his mouth like he doesn't know any better. It's weird.
