LONDON — Live from the palace _ Condi Rice on piano!

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice performed in a piano quintet Monday night for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Rice played Brahms' Op. 34 with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband's wife, Louise, on violin, and three members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

The queen gave Rice an audio recording of the performance as a gift.

Rice is a classically trained pianist who had expressed a wish to play at the palace.

She was making her final trip to Britain before President-elect Barack Obama takes office next month. On Tuesday, she gave a farewell speech to NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

Frowning slightly, the Queen admonishes the Duke.

Elizabeth Windsor: Oh good heavens, no. And dear, that word is terribly archaic.

Philip Mountbatten: Then what do you want me to do, cabbage?

Elizabeth Windsor: Invite that new pretty one next time.

If only she had decided to pursue a career in music instead of political science.

does anyone else find it odd that she "requested" to play for the queen? what's that about? that seems a little bit, oh, i don't know--weird. it would be different if the queen had asked her to play, but it just seems strange to me.

Right. But calling people you know NOTHING about: "bottom feeders" is really hot...

How does a classically trained pianist support bloodshed???!!!

explain your logic....art and violence cannot coexist? that is a real logic leap. after all, even hitler loved the arts and wanted to be a painter. one does not negate the other.

There is a connection between Wagner's music and the holocaust.

I know someone who played duets with her at Univ. of Denver. Shes quite accomplished in that area. Having said that, it's sad that a woman of her talent and intelligence got mixed up with the Bush Administration. Her intellect was wasted in her job as rah-rah for W and his horrible policies.

That is what happens when you have intellect but no heart. Most of the people in the Bush administration have no heart (except mainly for their own family and friends) and no conscience. Condi seems to have no "emotional intelligence."

Yesterday the White house reported that Rice was being " rushed " to Delhi to talk with the Indian govt. presumably to express solidarity with the govt. but mainly to dissuade a move towards nucelar war. Surprised that she thought it fit to stop by London to play the piano.

She should accompany her boss, Nero, while he plays the fiddle as Rome burns.

PROSECUTE Rice, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush.

These fluffy articles about Rice are just a distraction. She's celebrated as one of Glamour's women of the year! She plays classical piano for Queen Elizabeth!

Big deal.

She sat in an office with Cheney and Rumsfeld and approved specific types of interrogation techniques (which we now identify as torture) for specific detainees. That fact is not going away.
