Just because you've limited yourself to your own head (must be the only reason you know of so few "black families like that"), doesn't mean that there aren't a myriad of beautiful families of all nationalities and creeds in the world. I'm in agreement with you. There are MANY great black families like the Obama's, but unfortunately our media was not interested in them until now. I'm hoping with the election of Obama, that not only AA but other racial/ethnic groups are better represented and SHOWN not in the regular stereotypes of actors, singers, rappers, and sportsmen but also as INTELLECTUALS.

This is where cultural competency comes in. The MSM shows one kind of family and people who have not other friends of another race, rely on those images.

There are a lot of black families like the Obamas. I have a relative and his wife who are very successful and live in an $800,000 home. They achieved their success all on their own. They weren't heirs to anything. I've done pretty well for myself too but fortunately I've had the opportunity to travel and see the world so I mesh with most cultures.
