NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Among college kids' favorite brands: Facebook, Nike, iPod -- and Time magazine.

Those were among the findings of this year's Anderson Analytics fall survey, which since 2005 has posed a series of open-ended questions to college kids about their favorite brands and activities. This year more than 1,000 students across the nation were asked to quickly list things such as a favorite magazine or good book they had read recently.

While in some cases the results were predictable, there were a few surprises. Time magazine, for instance, ranked as the No. 1 magazine, unseating perennial favorite Cosmo and jumping ahead of last year's No. 2, People. CNN.com made it into the top 10 websites for the first time, while sites such as Perez Hilton and CollegeHumor dropped off the list.

I'm no Rhodes Scholar but I've never seen a larger bunch of ignorance in my life than now. The people on Jay Leno amaze me. They can't even tell you where Mexico or Canada are, for goodness sake or who invented the stop light. All some people know are the lies told about Chris Columbus, the Pilgrims and the Mayflower.

Also, for centuries this country has had to rely on the historical imaginations of white authors. Now, teachers are FINALLY teaching the truth about the U.S. My daughter's history teacher breaks it down. She gives details about George Washington and his relationship with his slaves.

One university professor researched 12 American History textbooks and they contained nothing but lies. It is an excellent read. He offers proof to dispute all of his findings.

Now we have so many ethnicities in this country and its about time that we know their history too. Blacks, Asians and Hispanics are listed in the Bible, which is over 2,000 years old. Their contributions to American history has been downplayed or erased.

This is kind of like being the #1 buggy whip at the Indianapolis 500. A recent survey indicated only 1% of college students read magazines.

How to fix Americas Schools

Step 1

Students may listen to Ipods/MP3?Cd players while on the bus. All headphones must be removed upon entering the building. All listening devices must be kept in students" lockers during the course of the day. If they are seen out during the day, they will be collected and kept in the front office until students pick them up at the end of the day. If this occurs more than twice, the students" parents must come in to retrieve their child"s device.

Student Cell Phones and Pagers must be turned off upon entering the building. Off does not mean vibrate. ALL CELL PHONES MUST BE KEPT IN THE STUDENTS" LOCKERS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY " NOT IN PURSES OR POCKETS. If seen, they will be collected and kept in the front office. If it occurs more than twice, the students; parents must collect them.

Well ok if you put your valuables in your locker, that does not automatically mean that it is safe. Some students are lazy when it comes to their locker combination's that they leave the dial on the last number so all they have to do is just turn the lock a little bit to the right and BAM it's open (I hope you get what I'm trying to say here).

Someone looking to take other people's possessions would test the locks to see which students used the aforementioned technique and it would be a quick and easy theft.

Makes sense to me but I don't know what to make of the superintendent on the cover.

In the article, it says that when people try to talk to her, she has her head buried in her Blackberrry. How's that as an example to the students?

The school chancellor on the cover is no joke. She closed several D.C. schools and fired over 36 principals and teachers. Way to go. Give her 5 yrs and we'll see a different D.C. public school district!

That People showed up on that list at all makes me queasy. They must have surveyed a lot of community colleges ("the 13th grade") or something.

It may make you queasy, but it makes Time-Warner money.

It's interesting to reflect on how dumbed down Time magazine has become over the past 40 years. I read somewhere it USED to be written to be readable by those with an 11th grade reading level, and now they've dumbed it down to be accessible by 7th graders.

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

Time is garbage. College kids need to be reading The Nation and the New Yorker.

Now what if you read all three?

And the American Prospect (Robert Kuttner and others on public policy) and Mother Jones and the Progressive.

No wonder so many college kids turn to pscychiatric drugs. Thumb through a Time mag and see how many drug ads you find. Sad.

Maybe you should tell your cronies at the Church of $cientology to put some ads for the cult in there. Or are they still reeling from the expose Time did in the early 90's?
