DC Examiner:

The Capitol Visitors Center, which opened this morning, may have tripled its original budget and fallen years behind schedule, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid found a silver lining for members of Congress: tourists won't offend them with their B.O. anymore.

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."

After the speech he gave for Stevens and the standing O I would think Harry is in need of a nose check as the smell left over from all of the nasties committed by both sides in the Senate should smell like a sewer backed up now. The whole place needs a quality check and a better ethics committee who takes their job seriously. Too many have gotten away with stuff that should have had their butts kicked through the goal posts inside of pats on the backs, snickers at us and speechs about the "qualities" the have which obviously should put them in jail. Do not understand why Harry Reid still has his job when his toleraton and admiration for Stevens shows yet another who has moral issues or he would never have stood up spoke then allowedthe standing O which is not supposed to be alowed in the chambers. I am not happy nor have I been with the Congress head team of dems and have hope Obama can alter some things from the top spot.

I think it's probably the stench from the corrupt neo-cons and blue dog Dems, including himself, rather than the tourists who emits a foul odor.

The peasants are revolting!! "The let them take a bath."

I'm not sure how the members of Congress could smell the tourists. They almost never come out of their posh offices and, the stench of the BS that comes out of the mouths of Congress easily covers any B.O.

Now about these bathrooms and souvenirs, what are you doing Harry, gold plating the droppings? You must have mistaken them for some of the legislation that has come out of Congress while the Republicans were in-charge and you sat on your hands.

FACTS:
16 million people visit D.C. every year generating $5.5 billion dollars of revenue.

Any portion of 16 million overheated, sweating people is going to generate a mighty stench. How would you like that in your office month after month?

It's much more humane to provide air conditioning for that many Americans who want to visit their capitol and learn about their government.

The capitol is dealing with a massive number of people in hot weather. I'm sure no one ever mentioned the problem before because of what the response has been to Harry's comment, but don't you really think that it's more humane to know about and deal with it than to ignore it? Millions of people in enclosed spaces could become pretty over whelming don't ya think?

You TOTALLY missed the point...we are at the brink if financial destruction...MILLIONS may lose their jobs...MILLIONS>.DO YOU UNDERSTAND...and this "TWINK" is talking about "sweaty stinky tourists"..ITS DISGUSTING....Next he'll be complaining about "IRAQ VETS" walking too slow with their prosthetic legs.

Yes we get it Harry. However, less is more. Why didn't you just listen to your staff and shut up about it?

If this is a concern for Harry and his ilk, then the old saw about power and corruption rings true and clear as fresh as ever. And Harry and ALL of your compadres sympathetic to this plight need to mount an exodus from the seats of power back to lowly ignonimy where us stinky people live. Call John McCain I'm sure you guys can knock back a couple of beers with tears at least over such dire matters that try mens (such as yourself anyway) souls.

Perhaps what you smell Harry is that HOLE in your head that you call a mouth.

Harry Reid has lashed out at smelly Americans before.
Back on April 14, 2008, Harry used his time on the Senate floor to speak out against this outrage:

“Mr. President, someone wanting to visit the Capitol today, there is no place for them to gather. They gather -it used to be out on the East Front - now they gather on the West Front. And the people who work here joke about you can always tell when it's summertime because you can smell the visitors. And what we mean by that Mr. President – they stand out there in the high humidity, heat, sweating, and it’s really – there’s no place for them to go.” Sen. Harry Reid's remarks on the Senate today.
