"Impeach Bush" Ornament Accepted To Hang On White House Christmas Tree

When Deborah Lawrence got the invitation from the White House, the Seattle-based artist decided to make a lefty political statement.

But she never expected it would hang on the official Christmas tree.

Laura Bush asked members of Congress to pick local painters to decorate ornaments for this year's 20-foot Fraser fir in the Blue Room. The globes (to be unveiled by the first lady tomorrow) are supposed to showcase something special about each congressional district. Washington state's Rep. Jim McDermott contacted a local arts organization, which asked Lawrence, a collage artist, to create the local entry.

I'm going to tune in for the Inauguration, just to savor the hour-long BOOING of Bush and Cheney.

You people who defend Bush in any way, shape, or form -- you are complicit with a traitor and a criminal.

Obama is the greatest. But I don't understand your comment. Whether you voted for President Bush or not, how do you avoid complicity? And how does denegrating the President absolve you of complicity? If you believe in and participate in a Democracy, doesn't that make you part of any action the Democratic Government takes? Can you benefit from our society and then turn around and condemn it? I'd appreciate an explanation so I could sleep better at night.

CNN reported that too. The lady ran her mouth and word reached the Whitehouse! :( She should have kept quite about it until AFTER it was on the tree. *sighs*

The artist is known for her satire and political statements in her collage work. It's what she does... so whoever "commissioned" her (which is a joke, because NONE of these artists were paid for their work, which is so typical) must have known what her work was like before asking her to "do the ball" for the WH tree.

Not so, JEP. Impeachment articles were drafted against Bush, but it never got any further than being read on the floor of the House. I think there were 31 Articles.

Considering the fact that for last few years not a single member of the House or Senate or a member of the U. N. has brought an indictment against George Bush, along with any evidence of illegality concerning the constitution, criminal or civil laws, or related to lying and deceipt, that tells me there IS no evidence and it's all talking points. Believe me, the way he's despised and wanted out of office so badly by certain people, it would have happened long ago but it hasn't.

So you think the impeachment of Clinton is irrefutable evidence that he committed impeachable offenses? Doesn't your argument also apply as a rationale against the United States having invaded Iraq chasing after WMDs that, it turned it, didn't exist? The UN didn't give us a mandate to occupy Iraq until /after/ we had already claimed Baghdad.

One of the charges brought against Clinton was perjury when he lied under oath about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. It was pretty evident that the charge was valid.

Jesus would be proud of her.

He was described comforting the suffering and never making friendly with abusers of their power.

He didn't dine with the tax collectors to the criticism from his followers? He respected elected power and urged followers to do the same... if you want much scripture on this I can provide.

Jesus also overturned the tables of those who would turn a profit at the door of a place of worship. He was hardly tolerant of those who abuse power and authority for their own personal gain, and he wasn't afraid to make a very public, very disruptive stand to make people see that.

The only reference that is quoted to Jesus is render to Caesar what is Caesar's. Nothing else. Period. Go ahead quote Paul, or any of the other writers, but they are not Jesus.

Doesn't ANYBODY read in this administration?

Having said that, there's a time and place for everything and to pull a stunt like this at the invitation of the First Lady in the spirit of holiday celebrations that has nothing to do with politic is pretty, well, "nauseating" . It's not like she was asked to do something in honor or celebration of "W" ---

Opportunistic stunt went wrong.

Considering how many people are looking forward to Bush leaving office, this is a great way to celebrate. Not to mention how it shows once again how stupid the current White House is.

When we asked, and begged, and pleaded, with the 'Grown-Ups' in Congress for Impeachment, they failed to deliver. It's time to appeal to a 'Higher Authority'; Dear Santa...

Personally, I would have waited until the ornament had already been hanging a while before I started crowing about its meaning ... a lot harder to deal with it once it was hung.

Oh well.

Shame on you Deborah Lawrence.

I am glad that Mrs. Bush is going to hang it on the tree.
Maybe you won't get the praise that you are looking for.

It takes all kind of people to make a world and this is supposed to be
an ornament to decorate a Christmas Tree for many people to see.

I hope they put your name in front of the ornament so they can see what
a stupid thing you did.

Actually, unsurprisingly, the White House went back on hanging the ornament. (there's been an update to the article) Wouldn't want to make Georgie cry about how nobody really likes him, would we?

I'm glad they aren't going to display it.

Art imitates life but this is not the time to show your assitude because
of partisan politics.

P.E. Obama will be the new President...so time to quit trying to humiliate the family.

Impeachment? What a load of bull. None of you can name an article of impeachment that would be brought against President Bush. Not a one. You need to stop parroting the DailyyKos and think for yourself.

Impeachment, what cute little buzz word but there is nothing behind it.

And as far as Ms. 4Eyes and her cute little Christmas ball, it speaks well of GW to hang it on the tree. I wonder if the left's darlings Fidel and Raul Castro or Hugo Chavez would allow such a half-witted political statement on their Christmas tree?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:45 PM on 12/02/2008

Really? How about lying us into war. And keep your stupid and childish name-calling to yourself. Art is necessary.

You know, Ultra, there were some goofy liberals who actually believed GWB was to be impeached and going to jail. I guess they fed off this nonsense so long, they have now become bewildered that nothing is happening. Your are correct. There is nothing and has been nothing done at a level of impeachment, let alone jail time. If all disgruntled constituents got their way, all leaders would go to jail after serving. Those who understand is was all grandstanding and rhetoric, harmless at that, are on to the real world.

Just curious.

This is the reason that Congress didn't do anything about the economy for the past
two years.
They were too intent on getting Pres. Bush impeached.

Now they can try to get their act together while America was imploding by their
inactions.

Only in America are people willing to make an ass of themselves in the name of
freedom of speech.

It's a miracle you haven't been rendered comatose from irony poisoning. Oh yes, Congress has been /so/ busy with impeachment proceedings ever since Nancy Pelosi said, the first week she became Speaker of the House, that impeachment was "off the table."

You are an enemy of freedom. Start with the war, the outing of a CIA agent, military propaganda, cover ups, posse commitatus, illegal search and seizure, illegal spying, torture, denial of habeas corpus, in all there are over 60.
