WASHINGTON — President Bush's former political director says the national security team named by President-elect Barack Obama "represents, to a substantial degree, continuity" especially in hot spots like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Karl Rove said on NBC's "Today" show the naming of the national security team is "a reminder that continuity exists particularly in our foreign and international relations."

Rove pointed to the retention of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the naming of James Jones as national security adviser, a Vietnam war veteran who rose to become a Marine four-star general and served as military chief of NATO during the Bush administration. Obama also named Hillary Rodham Clinton as his nominee for secretary of state.

Rove is clearly correct here, in that Obama is continuing the Bush policy in Iraq. He will bring home the troops as soon as Iraq is stable, able to take care of itself, and when it will not endanger our troops or hamper the war on terror.

This is precisely, exactly, what Bush had planned all along.

Obama simply restates what Bush has said repeatedly.

Well, let's hope that Obama's "continuity" puts this criminal in jail.

Gosh, oh gee, I don't know what Obama would do without Karl Rove's approval. Can someone tell me what he knows about national security anyway?

Nothing is more worrisome than the likes of Karl Rove supporting what Obama is doing.

One of the blessings of the election was that the probability that we would no longer hear – at least in Huffington Post - about the "Architect" of Bush's presidency, someone for whom the end by any means to achieve it is the primary concern, someone who snubs the Congress of the United States by defying its subpoena, someone for whom only a fraction of the society seems to be of any significance, etcetera. He truly belongs to the dustbin of history.

Can you please work on making this place a Rove-free zone? That's what most if not all of us want, it would be my guess. It's quite gross to see his picture or name. As others have commented, the guy's obsolete--irrelevant.

Oh puh-leeze. Rove is just trying to muddy the waters and stir up the far left blogosphere into dissatisfaction with Obama and weaken the base.

Look, he's still workin' it, even though his strategy and tactics are arguably the primary cause of the Repub's disintegration, kind of like Yugoslavia after Tito.

This guy would be willing to lie to you about the color of the sky...even if it were immediately visible to you.

Matt Lauer -- just another pretty face in an empty suit.

Look around at network news -- Lauer, Brian Williams, David Gregory, Katie Couric -- what's the difference between them and models?

Well??

HuffPo: We truly do not want to read or see stories about Rove, especially ones like this.

What makes this guy so special he can circumvent our laws and avoid any attempts at prosecution? If we can't bring him to justice, this country no longer has any moral backbone.

Right, so have him on the Today Show, treat him with warmth, and don't confront him about anything. Howzat for complicity?

Matt Lauer was real nice to Karl Rove. I suppose you would approve? After all, Karl has done so much for our country!

Karl, is a bad man.
Will that pass the 'approval' process ?

Why is this criminal still free and who besides idealogues cares about what he has to say? My biggest gripe is that congress didn't have enough cajones to do something about his bold faced flounting of the law.

This criminal is friends with the Bush family and they run the country in or out of the White House. I can only hope that Karl has a long painful sickness .

I wrote my strong views to the Today Show because they had Rove on. Matt Lauer was so friendly and welcoming. Rove was not confronted about anything! I find it appalling that they had a person on who has so blatantly defied a U.S. Congressional subpoena, and were interested in his opinion! NBC has taken the low road. Nauseating!
