Bart Simpson voices every Apple user's worst nightmare: that he or she is a trend-chasing loser whose pricey gadget-collecting hobby is somehow making Bill Gates rich. The below clip also references Apple's "1984" spot, which is usually dubbed the best ad of all time, but is rarely remembered by anyone other than ad-industry people or hardcore Apple users.

Look, as a die hard Mac user, even I love this bit. It's hillarious.

It's all a matter of purpose and choice. Each platform excels at certain things. If those things are what you spend the majority of your time doing, then that platform is the direction you should go.

As for OS, just buy an intel powered mac and you can run mac os, windows or linux, all at the same time if you prefer.

PCs can be solid, but you have to know how to use certain security measures and be willing to maintain them.

Macs are definitely solid, just maintain them like you would any other computer, but they require less in the way of security.

Price is less and less of an issue where macs are concerned.

Personally I've got a 10 year old mac running as a web server, a seven year old PC running as a DB server, a mac G5 for my graphics, animiation, web and broadcast design station and a PC laptop for conversion of files.

They all have a purpose and they're all worth having, mac or PC. Aside from that, it's nothing but your personal choice.

The president of Adobe Systems said over a decade ago, "where apple goes, adobe goes".

An Astin Martin is a better car than my Chevy. It also costs 130,000, compared to my chevy's 16,000.
My Chevy has gotten me every place I want to go. My Toshiba Laptop at 850 bucks gets me everywhere I want to go with XP. Is a MacBook nicer? Sure! Is it worth the extra money? Not to me.

Apple is worth it to me. I usually top $2000 selling my used Apple desktop on eBay when I upgrade. Try that with a cheap PC.

It's a matter of preference and it's nice we actually have a choice between two distinctly different OS.

Then I choose the easy religion. Recently, my dog knocked over the tray table with my MacBook on it and caused the hard drive to malfunction. I was able to remove the old hard drive, install a new one with a fresh copy of Leopard and migrate my home directory with the Migration Assistant - all in one day. The same procedure on a PC has never been as painless or as quick. This is just one example where Macs rule.

OTOH, my PC gamin' buddy recently achieved 81 FPS in Halo. W00t.

Microsoft does have stock in Apple, and vice versa. Was part of the trade off when Office was created for Mac. Sweetening of the deal for both sides.

I've yet to meet an Apple user who doesn't come off as being smug and elitist... And the commercials come off the same way.

If the product is so great and nonpareil, then why the need to compare it against Windows and take the low road?

Is not touting your own product on its own merits good enough?

No pop-ups to bat away [unless they're embedded in some on-line periodical's ad], fewer crashes and so on. At the same time, there's the cult of Steve Jobs and file sharing of music finished the job that crappy A & R work at majors started. Pretty good Apple parody, but this is being written on a newish I-Mac---the best computer I've ever used [and yes, I used pc's and those pc's crashed and crashed and crashed. . .]

What exactly were you running on your PC's? I built a PC for my wife as an aniversary gift about 4 years ago. We still have that PC and it has never crashed on her. We do have a mac book and I have seen the mac book stall and reboot. The idea that macs are somehow error free or crash free is a frigging myth.

Looks like your PC is running so well, that you had to post your comment 3 times. Really. I'd say you've undermined your own argument.

The peoplle who knock Apple are morons who have never used an Apple computer. They are the real suckers who use XP or Vista, and run this garbage on the cheap boxes they call "computers".

I own both a PC and a Mac. The PC is more versatile, and easier to upgrade, especially the video card. My 24" iMac is great, pretty well maxed out, dual boots XP Pro and OSX, rund XP better than my previous Dell.

For Photoshop work, there is no comparison, the PC kicks the Mac all over the place.

It's just a computer. The Mac is now just an Apple manufactured PC in a really slick case. I also can run OS X on my PC.

Get over it already, whatever computer you choose to use does not make you smarter, or less attractive. The Mac has it's pos and negs, just like ever peice of technology ever produced.

I would rate the reliability of either machine as great, as I know what I am doing when I set them up.

Um, for a computer "power user," your comparison here is a little disingenuous, doncha think? The whole point of the iMac is to create a computer that is "maxed out," that you pay less up front for a machine that is essentially not upgradeable. It's also the reason you pay for good components, for the longevity instead of planning on buying a new PC to be able to handle each new version of Windows.

You are absolutely correct, however, in this respect. "It's just a computer." And when I get my new MacBook Pro, I will be installing Leopard, Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP. Apple makes for a better Windows PC box than anything else. And I will get the satisfaction of being part of the growing Open Source community "to boot." (yuk, yuk)

As someone who works at a fortune 500 company doing retouch in Photoshop all day, I call bunk on your claim that there is no comparison between PCs over Macs. Professional retouchers don't use PCs. I've been in this industry for 20 years and I've never seen professionals prefer to use a PC over a Mac. If you've ever used Photoshop on a PC, you may have found certain operations are faster, but the hassle of Windows gets in the way so much that you ditch the platform entirely, like so many others have in this industry.

I use a Mac all day as a homeschool teacher for the family I work with. They all have their precious IPhones they had to buy the day it came out! Their 12 year-old has a 1300 Macbook that he barely understands and all I can do is shake my head when he says his mom's cell phone is better than mine because its an Iphone.

Sad but true, the Apple people tend to be a wee bit on the snobby side. Keep shoveling money to Steve Jobs and he'll keep churning out updated Iphones and Ipods that do the same thing the old ones do only more expensively pretending that they are somehow cheaper with a base price reduction.

Us poor folk will stick with good computers that don't cost an arm and a leg and run just fine. I guess I could pay an extra 600 bucks for that cool apple logo though because then I'll be a winner!

Bitter? Table for one?

It's wonderful that you love your PC so much, but if I hired you and found out you had such a poor attitude about the people who employ you, I would fire you.

Let's hope that for your sake your employer is as clueless as he is rich.

Wow, Talk about getting long in the tooth. The only thing remotely amusing was Harry Shearer's voiceover.

Haven't watched the Simpsons in a long time and this doesn't exactly show the way back. Meanwhile Apple products definitely have a lot more caché than the Simpsons -- said as an iPhone and soon-to-be MacBook Pro user. None of my PC buddies and Microsoft employee classmates say different.

It's such a thin line between clever and stupid…

Ah so true. Apple has 1/2 the quality, 1/2 the capability for 3x the price. The only thing that Apple actually has going for it is tremendous marketing to loser hipsters and the Prius lot.

Your numbers are slightly skewed - here's afix:

Apple has twice the quality, twice the capability, half the software, for twice the price. I've been an apple user/programmer for many years but unlike most of the MS devotees here, have owned and used both platforms. I use my PC when I have to but I use my Mac because I WANT to, it's like the difference between a turkey sandwich and Thanksgiving dinner. You can't understand it until you experience it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:37 PM on 12/02/2008

Half the software, eh? Well then, I'd better remove the Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit from my MacBook Pro, because (according to you) my Mac can't run it.

It seems to me that if my Mac can run all the Macintosh software and all of the Windows software then the Mac runs more software than a PC can. But I know how hard math is for you PC guys.

Learn how to set up your PC correctly, and run anti-spy an anti-virus software. Slowdown on PCs usually involve someone who installs tons of software from questionable developers, then tries to uninstall, which leaves a lot of "garbage" in the system and registry. Registry clean up tools do not work.

Your slow PC could be caused by out of date and flawed driver "updates"

Do you ever visit "Windows Update"? or is you pc loaded "as it came from the factory"?

In internet explorer, select "tools" then "Windows Update". It will want to install a small activex applet, allow it.

Mac suffer slow down as well.
