NEW YORK — Barack Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe, is writing a book about the historic election victory and has retained Washington attorney Robert Barnett, Obama's literary representative, to shop the proposal to publishers.

The book has been tentatively titled, "The Audacity To Win," a reference to Obama's million-selling "The Audacity of Hope." Having helped manage one of the most sophisticated and highly praised campaigns ever, Plouffe plans not only an inside look at the Obama run but also advice for how to manage a large organization.

"Hopefully, there will be some lessons on how to put together a three-quarters of a billion dollar operation," Plouffe said Wednesday, adding that the book would be high on tactics, and low on gossip, with an inevitable critique of the rival campaigns.

"I don't have a huge interest in scoring points, but there was a difference in strategy and approach," he said of the organization of Republican John McCain.

He will also write about the intense Democratic primary race against Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has since been picked by Obama to be secretary of state.

"We had enormous respect for that campaign," Plouffe said, although he expects the narrative would inevitably touch upon "strategic mistakes."

Plouffe, 41, hopes to have the book ready for release in the fall of 2009. Barnett expects to begin meeting with publishers this week.

"There will be many books about the Obama campaign, but only one from the campaign itself," Barnett said, noting that most of Obama's former campaign aides _ but not Plouffe _ are joining the Obama administration.

Plouffe, whose wife recently gave birth to a girl, said he remains in touch with his former colleagues and that Obama is aware of and approves of the book.

"His only advice to me was `Don't damage your reputation by writing a bad book,'" said Plouffe, who besides writing his book, plans on working as a consultant and spending time with his family.

David Plouffe (Obama's campaign manager who is being called the guru of marketing) overlooked the purchase of his domain name (www.) for his upcoming book, tentatively titled The Audacity to Win, referencing Obama's The Audacity of Hope.
I purchased the name when I (surprisingly)
saw that it was available and would love to get this site going ! For those into this kinda stuff.. ..you probably get the enormity of what this could be..
everyone else that isnt quite sure...trust me.. its pretty neat !!!

My question to all of you is- was he himself, Plouffed!?
Is this simply marketing genius in its highest form, from the grassroots up!?
What do you think?

LOVE THIS GUY but couldn't it be a post 2012 release? Still, I will definitely buy it.

David needs to take over the DNC Chairmanship!

I love this guy...Too bad he keeps such a low profile.... I agree that he should hold back on the book until 2012...

If they do it right, this should be THE playbook for political science majors for the 21st century.

The campaign was brilliantly run.

This is the kind of book deals publishers need to make. Not Sarah Palin's. Not Joe the Plumber's. Plouffe managed the most sophisticated and organized campaign in history and that's something worth reading about.

Yeah, and I'm gonna buy a copy, but I wished he would withhold it until after Obama's second run...

Sarah palin's book will be bought by right win organizations in massively large quantities and will be given away much as Newt's books have been. There is nothing about her that needs to be uncovered and analyzed since hse is basically just another pageant contestant who went into politics. Her stint as mayor was distnguished by overspending and rapacious looting of the federal treasury.

She is an opportunist with little to offer the GOP other than fading beauty and a willingness to repeat anything written on a teleprompter.

Plouffe & the president elect owe Oprah big time for making their campaign a success. She created the wave and Plouffe surfed it brilliantly.

what a ridiculous assertion!

Exactly. Two economists proved that Oprah single handedly delivered over one million votes in the razor close primary.

Plouffe, I am getting COPIES!

Now here is something worth reading. I would love to read a book from the McCain camp as well from Steve Schmidt and/or Rick Davis. These would be hot sellers.

As someone who canvassed and donated to the Obama campaign, my experience is that the focus of the campaign always maintained a professional attitude. Fun, but really top notch. I think that when Obama said that Palin's family was out of bounds for denigration he really set the bar. Everyone who worked with the campaign knew that rude and ugly remarks were out the door and that ethic translated throughout the ranks.
I don't know that the Republicans will want to take on the 21st century campaign tactics, because they still think that everyone who blogs wears pjs and lives in their parents' basement. Little do they know....we're actually in our underwear!

Great news !

Can't wait !
Thank you David for everything you've done and your book becoming the instant bestseller will be our gift to you !

Plouffe is MY HERO and I will be the first one to buy his book. I wish the world had more people like him. Class class class class class all the way....contrast him to the Charlie Black's and Schmidts' of the McCain campaign.

Couldn't agree more. To win the primaries without throwing mud on our opponent who is way ahead in the polls is sheer class and genius.

David Plouffe vs. Tucker Bounds
David Axelrod vs. Steve Schmidt
Donna Brazille vs. Nancy Pfot (?).....

I wonder why I am a democrat.
