Cuts 11 Newsroom Jobs, Both New York Correspondents

The Chicago Tribune, responding to industrywide revenue declines, is reducing the size of its newsroom by 11 staff members this week.

Included among the latest departures, announced to Tribune journalists Wednesday, are both of the newspaper's New York-based correspondents.

"It's a difficult economic time that we're experiencing, as are most companies right now, and ours is exacerbated by the structural change in the industry," Tribune Editor Gerould Kern said in an interview. "This is a really painful thing to do, but we have to continually evaluate the staff, its size and organization, to make sure it is in scale with the business. We also have to look at the talents, the skills and the organizations that we need for the future."
