Obama: "I Can't Grow Facial Hair"

On Wednesday, Barack Obama addressed Bill Richardson's shaven beard, stating "It was a mistake for him to get rid of it. I thought that whole Western rugged look was really working for him....we're deeply disappointed with the loss."

But perhaps the disappointment was more personal than the president-elect let on. In a September 20, 2006 article in The Hill about how voters prefer politicians to be clean-shaven, Obama told reporter Betsy Rothstein "I can't grow facial hair... I get whiskers."

I understand his plight. I can grow a cheezy, pencil mustache and a very patchy, unseemly beard.

I'd rather have no hair on my face than have to daily shave the ridiculously uneven and sparse amount I do have.

It wouldn't be a bad look. However sometimes when people go without shaving or being trimmed they look a little scruffy, and since his public image is highly protected, I doubt he will change his style.

His lips are beautiful; that doesn't make them girly. However, maybe some people equate the 2 in their minds. When I tell my 5 year-old grandson he is beautiful, he says I don't like that word. When I correct myself and say, "I mean you're handsome," he says he doesn't like that word either. Go figure. Take it or leave it, Obama's lips ARE beautiful. That does not make them girly.
