Farewell Puppy Cam: Tribute Pays Homage To Puppies Leaving This Weekend (VIDEO)

It seems like only yesterday the Shiba Inu live puppy cam stole our hearts. Now, 8 weeks old, they are ready to venture out into the real world (and off line). Some of the puppies will be leaving this weekend.

To remember the precious time we've spent together, I compiled a few of my favorite moments over the past 8 weeks into a slide show. Please enjoy.

Shiba Inus are originally from Japan ("inu" means dog in Japanese). As American animal lovers living in Japan, however, we are very sorry to report that the animal control authorities here "euthanize" hundreds of thousands of homeless pets every year (90% of them are puppies and kittens) in gas chambers, where they suffer a slow, painful and terrifying death...a veritable "Auswitz for animals" in the words of one leading animal rescuer. Please think about this the next time you are planning to buy a Japanese car or electronic device...or better yet, please write a letter to the Japanese Ambassador and ask him to stop this horrifying practice.

This is a problem in many countries including America, where it's still common to euthenize using gas in some animal control shelters. Pester your US congressman or Senator as well as the Japanese Ambassador . . .

Cute as a Bug!!! However, 8 weeks is too young to send them away from their mother. 12 weeks is better. I've never purchased a puppy (Sheltie) younger than 12 weeks and we have also rescued several abandoned dogs and cats.

I cannot believe the puppies will be leaving us. I first learned of the puppy cam on NBC News with Brian Williams several weeks ago, and had never heard of the breed before.
As someone else posted, watching the antics and the progress of the little guys and gals has given me a sense of inner peace, making me smile when I log on, as I search for a job. During this grim unemployment period, they have been a light and a joy. Thank you puppy parents and puppies. I know I speak for millions across the world when I say "We will miss you"!

Even cuter is the artist singing the song playing along with the slides: Ben Sharkey. Killer smile, great voice, writes his own music/lyrics. Yum, yum. I think I need to rescue Ben from Detroit.

Even before these puppies were put on the internet shiba inus were my favorite breed. It has been wonderful to watch them grow.

The owners have decided to keep one of the pups from this litter, so that will be nice. I'll miss the others, though....
