Jack Daniels Selling Well Amid Massive Economic Crisis

It's not just a joke: People are really turning to drink in this economy. Brown Forman (BF) the maker of Jack Daniels and Finlandia Vodka reported an awesome quarter

Brown-Forman Corporation reported that diluted earnings per share from continuing operations1 increased 13% to $0.94 and operating income increased 4% to $222 million for its fiscal 2009 second quarter. For the first six months of the fiscal year, diluted earnings per share increased 5% to $1.52, while operating income decreased 2% to $362 million. Adjusting for items in Schedule A of this press release, underlying2 operating income grew 5% for the second quarter and 4% for the first half of fiscal 2009.

Duh, of course alcohol is selling during economic tough times. I bet you other illegal drugs are doing fine as well. They just can't keep track of sales.

Alcohol is the most commonly used drug among young people.

Problem drinkers average four times as many days in the hospital as nondrinkers — mostly because of drinking-related injuries.

Alcohol kills 6½ times more youth than all other illicit drugs combined.

Concerning the past 30 days, 50% of high school seniors report drinking, with 32% report being drunk at least once.

The NYT, the Gap, Lehman Brothers, the not-so-big Three, AIG, La-Z-Boy, Levitz, Circuit City, Lane Bryant, various other newspapers, the security of IRAs, and possibly the $1 value of money funds -- all are going or on the fence; but, Jack Daniels remains secure. So, drink up. All is well, eh!

BTW, if you voted for Bush, especially a second time (!!!!!), it's more your fault than you'll ever admit or realize (i.e., since you manifestly lack either integrity or intelligence -- "integrity" since you clearly didn't hold a torture policy against The Great Bozo and "intelligence" since there was NO intelligent reason either to elect or re-elect a man whose lack of intelligence burps out in virtually every one of his sentences. Bourbon...ANY bourbon...is the foulest concoction ever devised by man. Much better used as paint remover than for internal use. If you *must* have whiskey, make it scotch or rye...neat or with water. That's yer proper civilized adult beverage right there. Good on cornflakes too!
