Laid Off Workers Stage Sit-In At Shuttered Plant

Workers have staged a sit-in at the now-shuttered Republic Windows and Doors plant on Goose Island, angry that Bank of America has cut the company off and forced it to shut down.

The factory at 1333 N. Hickory Ave. announced Thursday that it would close down Friday and its 300 employees would be laid off, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The company told its employees that Bank of America, its main lender, had cut off its line of credit because of a serious economic downturn in business, the Tribune wrote.

Sales to homebuilders from the company exceeded $30 million during the recent residential construction boom, but this year, they were only $6 million, the company told the Tribune.
