NYDN:

Lawyers for an author who accuses Jerry Seinfeld's wife of stealing her cookbook idea want a sitdown with the standup comic.

"Sneaky Chef" author Missy Chase Lapine's attorneys want to depose Seinfeld before the case goes to trial, but the comedian's lawyers say it is just a ploy designed to embarrass him.

"It's just another attempt to delay the judge's decision, another tactic to gum up the works," Seinfeld attorney Orin Snyder said.

Maybe they'd let him give a deposition about nothing.

I'm out of luck again, thought maybe someone was finally suing him for being criminally banal and mediocre.

Apparently Jerry can't believe that he has to abide by some rules. Out here in the real world, his reluctance to give a deposition looks like stalling and guilt.
He was all about being public in his character assassination of the Author, couldn't shut up everywhere he went, he threw in another insult...now all of a sudden, he can't talk?
He should have settled this right at the outset, now it looks like the courts are going to have the last say...and the author is going to win and rightly so. The public is watching. Shame on Jerry and wife.

Seinfeld and Coldplay should do a project together. One could only imagine where they would get their material.

It's usually David vsGoliath and whether the judge is starstruck. I remember someone sued Michael Jackson for Billy Jean. I heard both sides and Billy Jean sounded just like the other person's son. However, Mike won.

He's lucky the Nasonex people aren't suing him over that Bee movie.. ..another idea clearly ripped off.

LOL -- are you suggesting that the Nasonex folks were are able to tell the Bee story in 30 seconds, compared to 90 minute movie? He must be a horrible story teller - or the other 89 minutes 30 seconds was nothing but bad jokes filled with product placement ..

These two are obviously both willing to climb all over people to get their narcissistic pleasures. And pity those who get in their way....namely, Mrs. Seinfeld's first husband, the new groom, and the writer of the book whose idea she wanted to pilfer.

We originally loved the Seinfeld show, in which he convincingly portrayed a real jerk. Not so much now that he has revealed himself to be a jerk in real life too.

I just said that, he has no acting skills, what you see is what you get. Banality.

Depose Oprah as a co-conspirator or at least an accomplice.

That hour she devoted to promoting Mrs. Seinfield and her book rocketed it to the top of the bestsellers, and then she accepted $12,000 worth of shoes as a "thank you" gift from the Seinfields.

At the very least when the plagiarism allegation surfaced within days, she should have returned the shoes.

Wait, you can say no to being deposed now?

If he continues to refuse he will be commanded by court order to comply. I would imagine he is trying to out-lawyer Lapine. Obviously, he has more money, so the longer he stalls and the case drags on, the higher the attorney fees. It is a d/ck move.

The system should have something in place to prevent this from happening.

No nothing of the details, but obviously a reasonable and appropriate deposition (calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence, particularly if he's as close to his wife as he says).
However, may I just take this opportunity to say that no, he is not a funny guy, and I hope the plaintiff wins a punitive damage award, which is measured by how much money it would take to make the defendant feel it.
Now that would be funny.

You know, he's a funny guy and all, and part of this was him being protective of his wife, so some points given... but dissing that woman - and I heard him on several shows - seemed such an abuse of power. To quote Aniston: uncool.

He's not a funny guy,and when does protecting your wife include repeatedly smearing another person?

Admittedly and sadly, Jerry has exhibited some questionable behavior
in the recent past...

- His hosting of Madonna and A-Rod wreaked of weirdness.
- His Microsoft ad campaign laid an ultra-stink-bomb.
- And now, in the midst of possibly legitimate litigation,
he pulls a diva-act-- after defaming this woman on national TV.

Come on, Jerry- straighten up or there'll be...

NO LAUGHS FOR YOU!

It wasn't so great, either, when he took up with the woman who later became his wife but who was then married to another man and just back from her honeymoon. It is that Woody Allen kind of narcissism. On both their parts.

Why would any woman want to marry a man who took up with a newly-wed woman, and why would any man want to marry a woman who would betray her new husband for a more famous, richer man? Perhaps these two deserve each other.

I can remember when marriage used to be about TRUST in one another. The good old days.

without Larry David, Seinfeld would be one notch below Richard Lewis in the comedy world

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:24 PM on 12/06/2008

OMG-I thought I was the only one who thinks that Larry David iwas the entire brains behind the Seinfeld success; you only have to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm to realize this. I must disagree about Lewis though - I think he is hilarious interacting with LD on Curb.

Stealing is stealing , rich or poor. The difference would be, the poor will not have any defense and filthy rich shall, remain shameless .
