Bush Neighbor

As was reported this week, George Bush has bought a new house in a wealthy part of Dallas, called Preston Hollow, to live in after he leaves office. Preston Hollow homeowners are used to having well-known neighbors; the area is already home to Dallas Mavericks' owner Marc Cuban and former presidential candidate Ross Perot. And while many of the Bushes' new neighbors seem perfectly happy and excited to welcome the former first couple, a few of them, reports the Wall Street Journal, have some significant reservations:

The impending presence of a former President is ratcheting up security fears. "I am afraid with all the negative press the president has been getting, the whole neighborhood is going to be a target," said a woman, who wouldn't give her name. She carried her King Charles spaniel Friday past the Bushes' new abode.

But Raw Story reports that the area had some issues long before Bush made it his new home.

Until 2000, the neighborhood association's covenant said only white people were allowed to live there, though an exception was made for servants. The document, enacted in 1956, reads:

"Said property shall be used and occupied by white persons only except these covenants shall not prevent occupancy by domestic servants of different race or nationality in the employ of a tenant."

10141 Daria Place in Preston Hollow in North Dallas, according to the Dallas Morning News. Not far from where he used to live pre-Governor.

There are covenants like these in neighborhoods all over the country. They are not ILLEGAL, even to this day, because they are private contracts, which cannot be illegal. They are, however, UNENFORCABLE, due to the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. There is a difference between illegality and unenforcability.

The author should do a little more research and not just throw out facts that a layman would easily take out of context. The covenant was changed 8 years ago, not so that non-whites could move in to the neighborhood (they have been legally able to do so since 1948 [see Shelley v. Kraemer, 334 U.S. 1], BEFORE THE COVENANT WAS EVEN MADE), but because it is the right thing to do.

I will not support any library for this flake of a President. What on earth would He have to put into this library anyway? He has been overpaid for the past eight years and now He will have a big pension. Everything Bush has touched in his life has been a disaster. At least for the past 8 years and now in retirement his Father and Mother will not have to support him any longer but We are stuck. Maybe, Obama and Biden can eliminate this program to cut cost of the government.

Surely, a swift boater or two lives in the area, too
They were all from Dallas. Too many bad things happen in Dallas

We all shouldn't point a finger at Texas. Racism is alive and well in every state. Maybe not in the neighborhood you live in but you wouldn't have to travel far to find a neighborhoods such as this. The most segregated place I've been to is Southern Illinois, Connecticut is a very close second. The south pales in comparison to some of the racism I've seen in these places. No wonder Southerners want to distance themselves from Notherners. Very bad about pointing fingers without looking at themselves!

Wailt'll the neighbors discover that Bush brought the sheep from Crawford to help him get thru those lonely suburban nights.

Kanye was wrong. Color of your skin means nothing to Bush. Your net worth? That means a lot to him.

Well, at least he will be back in Texas with his cowardly republican friends and the country can try to fix the mess he left and charge his administration with war crimes.

So who's going to run the Crawford ranch? And what exactly does the Crawford ranch produce?
Milk Cows? Eggs? Crops of any kind or is it just a pretend ranch like we have a pretend president?

With all of the rag magazines such as "The Enquirerer" coming up with stories the last couple years about the Bushes & divorce, one of them living in a hotel and one of them seeing a shrink, maybe they're keeping the "ranch" so "W"has a place to go when Laura kicks him out and maybe Laura chose the Dallas home just for herself. It should be interesting. A cousin of mine in Fortworth told me several months ago that the Bushes were buying a home in Dallas.

I think the people in that development are just blowing smoke.
As far as I could tell, that will probably be one area of the country we will care little about.

It took 8 years to get him gone. Why would we now want to go visit?
