DG: SHE'S JUST A GIRL, SHE'S JUST A GIRL, THE GIRL YOU WANT.

it's better than that GOP pushing agenda of TOM BROKAW. I thought at one pont Brokaw was gonna lean over and give a big wet one to McCain during an interview. Gregory is a lot better.

snore... they couldn't find anyone else? not anyone at all? I cannot stand D.G. He is the the weakest link in the msnbc nightly line-up. hope to god this means no more 1600....

Yuck, yuck, yuck, I sincerely can NOT stand David Gregory. I was never an avid viewer of MTP, but I did tune in for Tim Russert, when he had a guest I liked. Unfortunately, no guest can lure me to MTP with Gregory; I honestly don't like his interviewing style.

NBC said, "I think I want to shoot myself in the only foot I have left." Let's listen to Tom Brokaw talk about the heartland (he's lived in LA and NY and DC longer than he ever lived in the heartland) and put David Gregory in Tim's post. Just brilliant. Not!!!

Mine too. He will fail, and fail miserably. He is lousy, and so was Brokaw. This decision stinks.

I stopped watching a few weeks ago. I wanted to watch the Obama interview, but there will be plenty of those by better journalists.

Instead of choosing Tim Russert's protege, they chose Tom Brokaw's. Strange isn't it?

Tim Russert said that Gwen Ifill was a national treasure. They really listened to Tim didn't they?
08:39 PM on 12/08/2008
Decisions like this are the reason why NBC is tanking. Gwen Ifill was the only choice but they didn't want a great show in the tradition of Tim Russert. Oh well, this is good news for ABC, CNN and CBS.

Gwen Ifill was my first choice to chair MTP after the death of Tim Russert. She epitomizes journalistic integrity.

I won't watch MTP with David Gregory.

This is a disaster. Calling David Gregory a bland interviewer is an insult to all bland interviewers. He makes watching glue drying more interesting in comparison. David Gregory will make me watch THIS WEEK with George Stephanopolus.

I like Keith and Rachel. That's it. Phil Donahue was kicked off MSNBC and Jesse Ventura was not allowed to start his show because they were against the war. It's tough for me to watch MSNBC at all knowing that they were cheerleaders for the war and opposed a dissenting point of view, but I enjoy Keith and Rachel so much.

Joe and Mika are unwatchable. Scarbourgh is more shrill then O'Reilly and Hannity. Chris Matthews ego gets in the way of his ability to ever evolve into a good moderator. If he wasn't so self-centered and rude with his interview style, he might make a very good replacement of Meet The Press.

I know it's like his question never ends. His guest will begin to answer something and then Chris would blurt out another thought of a few words - over and over! It must be terrible to be interviewed on his show. I think I would have to sit patiently and wait - and then ask if he was done asking the question before replying. He just doesn't seem to get it either - I guess he thinks it's just his style where others think of it as being rude.

I'm out. Gregory was hard enough to stomach at 6pm -- I hoped "road to the WH" would be gone after the election, but then they just changed the name to 1600 Penn Ave. and kept him around. The last thing I want to do on a sunday morning is tune in to watch grinning david gregory. Chuck Todd was a better choice, and Gwen Ifill would have been perfect. No wonder NBC is tanking so bad in the ratings.

With all due respect to David Gregory, I just don't think he has what Russert had which made MTP what is has been all these years. Russert had a magic touch with the balance he managed between letting an answer go because the answer itself showed his guest to be lying/an idiot/a shill/etc, or providing a video clip or quote or something to hold up as a mirror to what the guest said to provide us the context and illumination.

On the other hand, Gregory has let people say whatever they want on his shows with no action on his part to correct them or give us that context we need to make informed judgments on what was being proffered by his guests. In point of fact, he doesn't even seem to have the length and breadth of knowledge other of his colleges have demonstrated needed to find or have on hand those facts needed to provide us that context. He doesn't seem to have the intellectual curiosity needed to go and find those facts. Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow would have been much better picks, as each seem to relish ferreting out those damning quotes that Russert seemed to always come up with, and they have demonstrated that they listen to what is being said to them and improvise and contest it where appropriate. I've seen David Gregory do that only on rare occasion, and some of those occasions he was actually wrong.

I'm late, but you're not. Good work so far.

Gee, you're talking about journalism. Gregory got the job because he carried the bag at the White House - like Brokaw - and asked a few gotcha questions. This assignment is different. It is not enough to just be a sniper and ask a tough one-off question. You've got to be able to go toe-to-toe with someone and not settle for anything less than the truth - without being obnoxious, of course.

Chuck Todd is the comer. He's smart, objective and likable. All he needs is seasoning. He needs to get away from the losers on Morning Joe and hit the field to do some real reporting. That would position him to take over when Gregory tanks after 12 to 18 months.

MILQUETOAST - This pretty much sums up DG. I think almost anyone would have been better, but Ifill was my preference. NBC/MSNBC execs. are useless and completely devoid of vision (with the exception of giving Rachel Maddow her own show). And taking personnel advice from Brokaw and Williams (as reports indicate they did) is narrow-minded. There's a reason these guys are in front of the camera. Why would they give the most prominent Sunday political show to a guy whose daily shows were/are almost unwatchable?
05:23 PM on 12/08/2008
So true - I turned to my DirecTV radio package when his show comes on then I catch Matthews and Keith and if I'm still into news I watch Rachel - I love her show but I can only take so much of the news since the election. Who knows maybe Matthews will drop and I'll just do Keith and Rachel? You better watch it Chris Matthews - haha - as if he cares!
