Hillary

She's back!

To the delight of viewers, new-mom Amy Poehler returned to "Saturday Night Live," reprising her role as Hillary Clinton to address her selection as Secretary of State

"Would you rather fix the economy or travel the globe? Point Hillary!"

She touched on leaving her Senate seat:
"It has been such an honor to serve you, the citizens of New York. Who am I kidding this is not my home state... Pack up the house in Chappaqua Bill! What's that? We never unpacked? Even better!"

Darrell Hammond then stopped in as Bill Clinton. "You voted for change, but you ain't never gonna change this."

"Like the South, vampires and Britney Spears, we will rise again."

I'm a Democrat and it made me laugh. So did Hammond's Clinton warning tyrants and despots what to say when Hillary came to call as Secretary of State.

Now boys and girls. When Sarah was being roasted you got out the hot dogs.

One downside to being in total control of the government is that when you look for someone to point fingers at is will be "right back "atcha" "as Sarah would say.

You will see Hillary in 2011. After being the diplomatic leader of the free world for 3 years and after 3 years of Obama trying to get a handle on the ecomomy, look for her doing a "Teddy" move on Barack. For the younger ones, Teddy Kennedy ran against a sitting President of his own party [Jimmy Carter].

SNL is overstaying their welcome with this skit. Hillary Clinton has proven to be a much different person than the one that 16 years of smearing offered up. It is long past time to put this to bed SNL, before you become nothing more than a postscript.

I'm sorry, but SNL has lost its touch; it just is NOT funny anymore. It really needs to get some new talent.

Poler is not funny..at all..nothing about mocking a Democrat is ever funny.
SNL is trying to be fair and balanced - thats the real joke...and it's not funny.
You want comedy you turn to the gop and use their own garbage. thats always funny.

I thought only conservatives lacked any sense of humor.

Get over it. They have been and will continue to make fun of everyone!

I thought this skit was hilarious!

Congrats on the new baby Amy!

To everyone who called the sketch weak: the difference between Tina Fey's Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton is the difference between impersonation and caricature. Tina Fey got to play Sarah Palin in scenarios that were actually happening and were altered in minor ways to facilitate the comedy. Amy Poehler, however, plays Hillary Clinton in situations that have never happened, but it is this skewed version of Clinton that is in the event and that's what makes it funny.

If you don't know the difference between impersonation and caricature, that's fine, but don't act like comedy experts and claim that the sketch was weak. The sketch was topical, current, and provided the opening that the show needed. Amy Poehler's been playing Clinton for a long time now, and I think she does a great job. Same goes for Fred Armisan as Barack Obama. Stop griping that he's not black; neither is Obama. They're both mixed-race individuals. That's two races, mingled equally, not just one or the other.

Excellent comment, I agree totally. I enjoyed the sketch, and it was great to see Amy as Hillary again.

Was it too much logic, or too much information. I used a lot of SAT words in there, which I guess I should have known better than to do.

Will stick to simple sentences in future. ;-)

As just a non-credentialed, non-"expert", regular viewer, what bugged me about Amy's caricature was she took it to a place vocally that had no relation to the way Hillary actually speaks. A caricature is supposed to be a distortion of existing characteristics. She may not be able to sound like her timbre-wise, but the smug blue-blood manner of speaking she gave Hillary bares no resemblance whatsoever to the way she speaks.

Someone mentioned Chevy Chase's caricature of "Gerald Ford". I don't recall Chevy doing anything at all with his voice. It was funny because it was Chevy Chase! as bumbling Gerald Ford. But Amy is giving vocal character to her Hillary by speaking in a self-satisfied unctuous way and I find it a major distraction that gets in the way of the content.

Hear, Hear! Well put ! While I was thinking the same thing, my thoughts weren't nearly as concise!
I was discussing this topic with my family, who were all McCain/Palin supporters (I was not) because they are upset SNL seemed to "pick on" Palin/McCain so much more than Obama. I disagreed, citing the impersonation/caricature difference. Obama's calm personality and eloquence do not lend to as much fodder for impersonation that, say, Palin's voice, overbearing personality and lack of eloquence do. But that doesn't mean there aren't humorous caricatures of him.
Whatever...when you have to draw a road map of a joke for someone, it's lost it's beauty. I say that was one of the best skits by Amy this election season.

A great skit for next weeks show would be Hillary entering holding a dog leash then sitting down and saying. . .

"Hi everyone I want you to meet my new pet Poodle Jon!

My Favreaurit Pet! Up boy! Up! Good Boy!

Isn't he adorable?"

She did a good "Palin Rap" before she left to have her baby ...but she isn't anywhere near in the same category as Tina Fey. She doesn't sound anything like Hillary and doesn't look like her, either. As impersonations go ... it's not a very good one at all. I hope coming out of retirement after a month is going to be temporary.
