Arianna

Arianna Huffington beat out contenders like Tina Fey, Rupert Murdoch and the Laid-Off Journalist to win I Want Media's Person of the Year 2008.

The readers of I Want Media nominated 10 candidates and cast thousands of votes in the week-long Internet-based contest. The winner last year was "Hollywood's striking writers," who followed Comedy Central satirical newsman Stephen Colbert in 2006.

Huffington had a big year in 2008, guiding her liberal-leaning news and blog site to record traffic during the U.S. election season.

Thanks to everyone who voted.

I realized during the primaries that I wasn't ever going to get any unbiased news from the mainstream media. They were totally biased. I already knew how I was going to vote, and being barraged with "Hillary is Inevitable" really pissed me off. The MSM had already decided who was going to win and I hadn't even voted yet.

HuffPo and PBS were the ONLY places I could go to get any information about Obama. As the campaign went on, their coverage just got better and better. I saw stories on HuffPo that weren't being reported anywhere else, and once the HuffPo bloggers got hold of it, the other news agencies had to pick up the story.

Blogging here made me feel like I had a voice and that I made a difference. My tiny voice added to every else's here became a deafening scream for change that was heard around the world. We made history here and I got to be part of it.

Congratulations Ariana for a job well done. Thank you for making me a news junkie again. And thank you HuffPo Bloggers for making my life so much richer. I have loved touching minds with all of you.

You have definitely changed my level of involvement in what goes on in the world. I'm no longer subjected to TV and its insanities and misrepresentations, but rather, more informed than ever about what's REALLY going on around us. How I choose to use this info is completely up to me.

I feel empowered.

Thank you for that Arianna, and Congratulations!

Arianna is great, as is the Huffington Post. I always respected her articulate responses even when she was a Republican years ago. She had a sense of humor (see her skit with Al Franken done from bed) and was not mean-spirited in her debating. I'm glad she is on the Dems side. We can use a lot more like her....but there will only be one Arianna.

I really like Arianna. She pulls no punches and tells things as they are. Along with Keith O., Rachel, Bill Maher, she's up there with the rest of my faves.

Considering that Baba Wawa named Rush Limbaugh one of the ten most interesting people of 2008, Media Person of the Year is the very least that Arianna deserves. We're with you all the way, Arianna!

Arianna,

As I type your name, the spellchecker flags it. I know that you have capable IT support, so why not have them update the dictionary with names like Barack Obama since Saddam Hussein is not flagged? Thank you, and congratulations.

You Go Girl!!

Congratulations Arianna!

I am very happy for you. The site is wonderful. Matt Drudge should watch his back and his numbers next year, you are gaining on him hah!

On you go...have a most successful 2009 too!
