Brad Pitt versus Angelina Jolie. Heath Ledger versus Robert Downey Jr. Bruce Springsteen versus Miley Cyrus.

Those are some of the matchups for the 14th annual Critics' Choice Awards, out this morning with nominations.

Pitt's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will vie for Best Picture against partner Jolie's Changeling. Ten films overall were nominated. The others: The Dark Knight, Frost/Nixon, Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, WALL-E and the not-yet released Doubt, The Reader and The Wrestler.

Despite a category that's about as crowded as Pitt and Jolie's house, there was no room for a couple of notable films.

Box-office bust Australia and the upcoming Revolutionary Road, featuring the Titanic reteaming of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, both will be denied the top prize. Australia earned but one nomination overall; Revolutionary Road, zero.

Haven't seen "The Reader", "Milk" , "Wall-E" and "Doubt".

"Changeling" -- good, but contains Eastwood's trademarks (which are flaws, in my opinion). It overplays its hand with its attempt to manipulate audience's emotions (hence my dislike for Million Dollar Baby) and the story is a little too long, but has very good production values (like L.A. Confidential). It couldn't shake off the TV movie vibe, though. In fairness, I have never been a fan of Eastwood's directorial movies.
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" -- although very long and weak in some areas, it's very good. In a way, it reminds me of The English Patient, Au Revoir les Enfants, and so on. I think many will love this. A thinking wo/man's story of morality, love and time.
"The Dark Knight" -- good popcorn fun. I enjoyed it, but that's all, really.
"Frost/Nixon" -- It's one of those movies that you recognize and accept its flaws, but still enjoy it regardless. I truly enjoyed this movie. Its problems - talky, irregular pacing, and hammy performances by some actors. In spite of these, I enjoyed it.
"Slumdog Millionaire" -- excellent. A vivid, colorful and gutsy fable.
"The Wrestler" -- it's better than I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's good to see Mickey Rourke back on his form.

I think Best Picture: The Wrestler, The Reader (which I haven't seen, but easy to imagine that it'd get a nod), Frost/Nixon and Milk. I hope it'll go to Slumdog Millionaire, but it

You know this is a joke when you read "Changeling" as the best movie??? This is the same movie that the Top Critics gave it a 44% rating @ the Rotten Tomatoes Website. This is the same movie that many critics agreed that Jolie overdid it and that the supporting cast (John Malkovich and Amy Ryan) were dazling and much better than Jolie but ,once again they get snubbed and Jolie gets nominated for uhhhh being popular. She's not gonna win anyway but i'm p i s s e d that my Kate didnt get nominated for Revolutionary Road, the same movie that is currently at 100 % rating @ Rotten Tomatoes

Laura Linney should have been given Jolie's role

Watch for a swell of interest in Doubt once it is released. I think the heavyweight cast will get lots of buzz.

I love how people say Jolie is an overrated actress..Uh, yeah right. How many of you lame -o's generated a billion dollars in revenue for anyone..in a year...much less a lifetime...

..producers and studios know its her name that puts butter on their bread.

Yes, but she still can't act.

Earning potential is not the sum total of a person's worth - unless you're shallow.

Are you that naive? Unless the film is a single camera set in a room with just Jolie, the success of a movie is NOT about Jolie.

Frank Langella, "Frost/Nixon" will will best actor
Kate Winslet, "The Reader" (just because she's British) :-)

They will snubbed Pitt and Jolie.

I would like to see Sean in Milk over the weekend! They might do something with Ledger just because...

I kind of hope Ledger wins nothing. He was great in the movie, but there are other strong and more worthy performances. The Oscar's are about popularity. What movie was hot or most talked about. I have seen several Oscars given out for next to nothing.

I thought Ledger was outstanding and I hope he does win because it is always worth the ticket when the audience is immersed in the character and not the actor playing a character.

No nomination for Josh Brolin in "W". Stupid awards shows....

Eastwood gets nominated just for being Eastwood, right?

That's typical, best film of the year Slumdog Millionaire and all of the major actors in it were shut out. Instead they put Dev Patel in a trite young actors category. I hope it wins everything it's nominated for.

How can they critic something that has yet to be released? Who are these critics? What are their credentials? One of them should be that you have to have seen the movies before nominating it for an award. I'm still waiting for the winner is, of course Curious Case of Benjamin Button!

I never listen to the critics. They are usually wrong, overly hateful towards certain actors or directors and give movies that deserve credit bad reviews or vice versa. It's all trash. I am personally irritated with Dev Patel being lumped in to a young actors category. When you see Slumdog Millionaire you will know what I am talking about.

What about "The Edge of Love"?

Cillian Murphy as best supporting actor as William Killick -- or should that be best actor? He made the movie: handsome, romantic, confident, vulnerable, traumatized.

Sienna Miller as best supporting actress -- for those, like me, who have only seen her paparazzi photos in the name of scandal and read about her starlet's life, you will be surprised by this move. Not only can she act, but also she can act well.

Keira Knightly - her best movie so far.

Matthew Rys - subtle portrayal of the real-life not-so-likeable Dillon Thomas.

A MUST SEE MOVIE
