The AP reports that Obama intends to name Lisa Jackson, the former Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, as his Environmental Protection Agency administrator.

Democratic officials say President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate Steven Chu for energy secretary, Lisa Jackson for environmental protection agency administrator and Carol Browner as his energy "czar."

Obama is expected to make the announcements in the coming weeks. Still unclear is whom Obama will tap for interior secretary.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal selections that have not been made public.

New Jersey Greens tried to warn the Country about Whitman years ago.....no body listened.....and the rest is history. Now New Jersey Greens are trying to warn the nation that Lisa Jackson is not what we need to fix the EPA. Please take this warning seriously.

I looked into this thoroughly this story was propagated by one disgruntle employee that was let go by Ms. Jackson when they where forced to cut the budget at the NJDEP.

It's amazing when you people believe everything you read from people that you don't even know. Her wiki page has a much more non-bias accounting of her career.

You really should stop lying Buddy. And if you won't, please tell us just how Georgia Boy like you knows Jackson.

Tell the truth Kquark. You're a shill for chemical industry and you love Jackson because she bent over backwards for you guys.

You know everyone has an opinion you are probably connected to Wolfe or Ruch

"He (Wolf) is a disgruntled former NJDEP employee, and his successor, Jeff Ruch, is parroting Wolfe's same distortions. The credible environmental watchdogs in NJ are Jeff Tittel (Sierra Club) and Dena Mottola (Environment New Jersey/NJPIRG). Tittel, in particular, is often blunt and critical so his comments are especially impressive.

Here is Tittel's (commentate on) Jackson's selection:

"Lisa Jackson would be an outstanding EPA administrator," said Jeff Tittel, director of the Sierra Club in New Jersey. "If you work on environmental issues in New Jersey, you get to work on more issues than probably any other state in the nation."

Morefrom Tittel:

"She's been a real leader as far as clean air, clean water. She has said many times she understands firsthand the failure of government in dealing with climate change.""

Yep I know Wolfe, Tittel, and Mottola....and get along just fine with each of them.

Unfortunately Tittel and Mottola see Jackson as a way to step into the national limelight and are whoring themselves out in support of her.

Here are the plain facts: the NJDEP used to be one of the leading environmental agencies in the country. (circa 1988-1992) . Whitman did serious damage it when she was governor and since then and particularly under Jackson the Department has become shell of of its former self .

Exerpted from Bloomburg
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=asJUo_UNRhQo&refer=home

Jackson, Obama’s choice to head the EPA, has been helping to lead Obama’s transition group overseeing the federal agency. Some environmental groups have been critical of her.

The Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, a non-profit alliance of local, state and federal employees, say Jackson’s record in New Jersey should “disqualify” her from running EPA.

They claim Jackson allowed politics to sway her policy decisions and that she suppressed scientific data.

Jackson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

One group based on reports from one disgruntle employee who was fired from the NJDEP because of budget cuts. I guess you have not learned that you cannot believe every blogger that holds a grudge.

Total bullshit.

Peer, the NRDC, the edison wetlands association and several NJDEP employees commments have all posted anti-jackson comments on the web.

BTW the rosy description given you provide JUST ISN'T TRUE! Jacksons leadership of the NJDEP has been been remarkable in its failures, and I shudder at the thought of her leading our nation's environmental protector. Jackson's recent appointment as Corzine's chief of staff was not only a relief to those who work in the agency, but to many environmental groups who work in the trenches trying to cleanup the 20,000 toxic waste sties that continue to poison our families and destroy our natural resources. NJDEP has taken a significant turn towards little enforcement of state and federal environmental laws and regulations on Jackson's watch. Jackson also supported a licensed site professional (LSP) program in New Jersey, a move which would essentially turn over the cleanup of toxic sites to the responsible parties consultants who could then self-certify their own cleanups. This LSP program is an inadequate response to recent high-profile incidents at New Jersey waste sites, such as that involving Kiddie Kollege -- a daycare center found to have been built on a former thermometer factory site contaminated with mercury -- and the Ringwood Mines Superfund Site, which EPA had to return to its National Priorities List after it and DEP had previously determined the site was cleaned up. Jackson has also discouraged Environmental activists following DEP's failure to meet deadlines associated with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the state's global warming law. She also eliminated DEP's Division of Science and Research. So much for well founded Environmental protection

You just made my point. NJ is a cesspool that's why being head of NJDEP is a no win situation and I left there years ago.

If you really knew what New Jersey was like, you would call it a cesspool. Theres lots of beautiful areas throughout the state.

Bottom line; Jackson was never qualified to run the NJDEP.....diitto with EPA.

Gee KQuark. The other day your bio said you were from Georgia and originally from NJ . Here's the hyperlink to prove it.

Duh I lived in NJ for over 30 years and did my post grad at Seton Hall. so what's your point. You are obviously the one disgruntle employee that is disparaging Ms. Jackson based on you personal value judgments.

Lisa Jackson is very qualified and has a great background as a chemical engineer for the EPA.

She has done a great job in NJ besides some critics who have personal grudges. I'm from NJ and being head of DEP from NJ is always a never win situation because you have the power of the chemical companies on one side and an idealistic academia on the other side. I got my undergraduate chemistry degree in NY and graduate degree in NJ and the difference was startling. I was shocked at the prima donna professors in NJ compared to NY that just worried about building their own prestige. The chemical industry was much the same in NJ that's why I transferred to work in the south.

I think DR. Howard Dean should head the FDA since he is a medical doctor. He did a great job as Democratic party Chairman. And he said that he did not want to continue to chair the party. Reward him with this job at least. I know he can make a difference in heading this big agency.

Contact and lobby President-elect Obama team for Howard Dean to head the FDA.

That would be a solid choice for sure and obvious as an MD he has the science background needed.
