Forrest Claypool Floated For Obama Senate Vacancy

A thoughtful veteran of Illinois politics offers an interesting name for Illinois Senate, one that I hadn't heard before: Forrest Claypool.

Claypool has long been close to Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, who may -- unless legislation is passed putting a special election in place -- wind up making the choice. He's a reformer, a champion of ethics reform, and unafraid to anger the establishment.

Reformers were disappointed when Obama stayed on the sidelines of Claypool's 2006 race for the president of the Cook County Board, and so there would be a nice logic to Obama's supporting him now.
