City Council Wants More Diversity In Chicago Olympic Bid

The Finance Committee of Chicago's City Council has postponed deciding whether the city should purchase the Michael Reese Hospital site for its Olympic Village until committee members can be assured that the 2016 organizing committee will do a better job of hiring minorities to help with its bid.

Finance committee members spent most of their Monday meeting chastising Patrick G. Ryan, chairman of Chicago 2016, for a bid process that fails to meet their expectations of including minority-owned businesses. Through the first nine months of this year, the 2016 Summer Olympic Games bid committee has awarded 6% of its contracts to minority-owned businesses.
