Disney Channel Heads To Russia
LOS ANGELES - The Walt Disney Company will launch a free-to-air Disney Channel in Russia, a mega-market that Western media companies have been trying for decades to crack with little success.
The channel, to be introduced in 2009, will be a joint venture with Media-One Holdings Limited, a broadcaster that operates 86 television and radio stations in regions of Russia. The channel will be anchored by Disney programming for children and families and will also air original Russian programming.
