Chris Martin: Coldplay Splits Up All The Time, I'm Not Divorcing

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

When the going gets tough, Coldplay get going - their separate ways...

Chatting to us backstage ahead of their stomping gig at London's O2 Arena, Chris admitted: "We have split up on this tour.

"Every time we do, we get back together about 20 minutes later - we don't even have time to announce it!

"How many times has it happened this tour? Probably six or seven.

"Each time we say, 'This is it! This is the last show!' But then you have a fun show and everyone shuts up. The last time it happened... well, even our publicist wouldn't have found out about it.

"To be honest, whenever we have any bad news, I always quit for about 10 minutes.

"I get depressed about something - a gig didn't go well or that person said something terrible. But then the rest of the band will say, 'It's OK, we'll carry on'.

"I'm trying to think when the last bit of bad news was. Well, putting things into perspective, there hasn't been anything that bad for a while. I'm supposed to be getting divorced, we're supposed to be getting sued... but those things aren't happening so don't really count as bad news.

Ah, such Coldplay hate here. I wasn't a huge fan until Viva la Vida came out. Then I saw them in concert and I thought they were amazing. By far the best show I have been to.

And Chris Martin? Sexy/beautiful!

"We're supposed to be getting sued."

You should probably see what your lawyer is "supposed" to be up to right now, bud.

For some reason we are being bombarded with Coldplay stories all over the place. Are they really that good, or interesting? I'm trying to be objective here, lol. But it seems someone, somewhere is trying to force them down our throats on an almost daily basis as if Coldplay is the new Led Zeppelin, Beatles or Elvis.

Run stories about much more interesting acts, like Simone Simons and her band Epica, or 6 foot tall mega-voiced Floor Jansen and her band After Forever. Or what about the American singer on the world stage, Melissa Ferlaak from Minnesota who shot to worldwide fame and stardom with the little known band Visions of Atlantis in which she wrote a song about the death of her niece Teagan who was killed when someone attempting suicide drove their van into the diner while her brother and family were haivng a nice lunch after attending church that Sunday? Toll was 2 killed, 9 severely injured.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yRnVywfJ5w That's a song Melissa did about it. Stunning considering the music the band normally plays. To me that's newsworthy. Reading about the story behind the song. What happened to the family, how they managed to get through the difficult times, and in the end, they even managed to forgive the woman who attempted suicide, causing the wreck, but then survived. I cried quite alot reading about it.

Methinks everyone is protesting too much about that marriage's health.

Another one of those bands that are supposed to be huge. Yet I know not one person who owns an album.
All I can do is yawn when I hear them.

Me either. I hear them on the radio but that's about it.

Considering I'm an audio engineer who has worked on that level of production. Um No! I'm not. I also play multiple instruments. I do come at this with a fair bit of cred.

I was only observing that no one I know owns the albums. I've asked. It's a bit of a curiosity. Not the only act I've seen this with.

I will add this. I've had mates work the Coldplay tours here in Australia. The reaction of most I talk to is, Average and up themselves.

If you dig them. Please continue to buy the albums. Bands touring, turns into work for my friends. We are professional, even if we can't stand the act, we do our best to give them what the need to perform. It's all good. It's our passion for music and the fans of it.

I would have thought, being the biggest band on the planet at the moment. Someone I know would have an album. That's all.

On the plagerism thing. They wrote a song that is a very simplistic (nothing wrong with that) progression. Based on a common structure and intervals. I don't see plagarism. So I'm not out to bash them.

Well, I own two of their albums (I'm a semi-professional musician in Canada). Didn't like the last one, 'X&Y', 'cause I thought their sound was getting boring, but I love the new, Eno-produced one. Most people I know that are into music -- many of whom are professionals -- own at least one of their albums. Maybe they're just less popular in Oz?

Agreed.

Mediocrity today sells.

Coldplay is the Big Mac of the newer bands ... and Brtiney is popular as well. When I hear kids go on about Coldplay, I know they've not been exposed to much else or are just hungry to call something 'new' great. The Hanson of this generation ... original, they are not at all.

Mediocrity and cuteness ... there you have Coldplay.

blah blah blah...Coldplay sucks anyway. Who cares...

You got one right. Coldplay sounds like a bad U2 cover band. The use the same old rehash every album.

Last I heard from every news source known to mankind is that a plagiarism lawsuit has been filed against CP in Los Angeles county federal court seeking a jury trial for damages, any and all profits attributed to the alledged copyright infringement of Joe Satriani's song "If I Could Fly". I always suspected that The Creaky Boards settled with the band after their meeting with CP management. If there is no lawsuit with Satriani, has CP settled again?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:23 PM on 12/17/2008

Satch is is not of this world. His guitar work is amazing and melodic. I don't blame CP for ripping a piece off of Joe. Now it's time to pay to play.

I have such a crush on Chris Martin. Please don't laugh at me.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:34 AM on 12/17/2008

I won't laugh at you - I totally understand. I'm not a Coldplay follower so I'd like to know why Chris dances so weirdly - does he do it on purpose? I mean, is it that he doesn't know how to dance and that's the best he can do or is it part of an "act"?

Its the "Narcissist Delusional Dance". Chris is Chris's biggest fan. I can't stand to watch him do that arms-outstretched thing!

He sure does. He gets really animated and involved with the audience too. I saw them in Orlando a couple years ago when Fiona Apple opened for them. She too is an odd mover and shaker. Talk about weird movements onstage. It's almost painful to watch because she seems to go to some really personal place. She is an odd one that Fiona, but I do love her music.

Not really an expert on this subject, but my guess that's how he feels the music. Obviously, he's no trained dancer. He may also simply be releasing some energy.
