Will Smith gives generously to many causes, and one of them is the Church of Scientology. A Fox News report on his charitable foundation's tax return shows that $122,500 was donated to Scientology causes, out of $1.3 million given overall.

He also gave a combined $122,500 to the Church of Scientology, broken into these donations: $67,500 to the New York Rescue Workers Detoxication Fund, $50,000 to the group's Celebrity Center in Hollywood and $5,000 to ABLE, another Scientology offshoot. Smith and his wife have also supported a private school called New Village Academy they opened this fall in suburban Los Angeles that uses Scientology learning concepts.

Smith has talked about his study of Scientology and also said he is not a Scientologist.

I wonder if Will Smith is sorry now, that he gave such a large donation to Scientology, now that John Travolta's son is gone..

Boy am I conflicted. I never thought much of Will Smith anyway, but this news
item is a stunner. Should one be upset because he donates to Scientology
at all?Or should I be shocked that a guy with his millions gave such a paltry
su? I must ask Tom Cruise what he thinks the next time they're over for dinner
that is after I repair the couch.

Wow, I thought he was supposed to be one of the handful of intelligent actors. Why doesn't he give that kind of money to a charity that directly helps the poor. What a waste of money.

The church of Scientology is a place where the rich and famous can go to commiserate over their wealth and for a small fee unload all their guilt for having a career. The commoner just wouldn't understand.

Say it ain't so!

He's studying the cult of Scientology?

This changes the whole way I look at him now. I used to respect him.

the hate over such a non issue is hilarious

The obvious OSA bot trying to divert attention but FLUNKing miserably is hilarious-not to mention plain sad.

For the non-informed OSA is short for Office of Special Affairs, the 'secret police' branch of the Scientology organization. Part of their job is to go on websites and post 'positive' comments on anything regarding Scientology. The Office of Special Affairs was formerly known as the Guardians Office, which was part of Operation Snow White- a Scientology infiltration into the US government to remove any and every critical report on the COS and their founder, L. Ron Hubbard. Eleven Scientologist's were convicted, among them was Mary Sue Hubbard, the 'great leaders' wife.

ITS NOT THAT SERIOUS...... he gave money to a church.. a church of looneys fine, but at least its a charitable donation... not vegas, or night walkers, or drug lords... those looneys might be misguided, detoxing ppl with elixirs and the like, but at least he is doing something.... with all this hate, i guess he is doing something right.

Whoreally cares where he gives his money too? are they a terrorist organization? are they a middle eastern government or country, (looking at u B. C l i n ton...) or a convicted felon? (half the people in washington) he gave money to a church that does charitable work. Ok you can argue what they do isnt charitable since it makes no sense, detoxing ppl with elixers and the like, but at least he isnt donating his money to vegas, d r u g l o r d s, night walkers, and so on and so on.. so much hate, i guess he must be doing somehthing right.

And I'm SURE if he gave his money to vegas, hookers, or druglords, it simply means he's only STUDYING them, too, right?!

I remember when he was promoting "Six Degrees of Separation." He talked about the scene where he was supposed to kiss the guy (as it was originally staged). Smith said that he discussed kissing another guy on screen with Danzel Washington who told him not to do it because, "... the brothers will never get over it." Since then I have always thought that he wants to be a star and is not an actor. Now I wonder if he enjoys the scrutiny that comes with that?

I wouldn't have been surprised that he kissed a guy. You know, rumor has it........

He's not the only one...for many years, since they first became famous, the rumors have swirled around John Travolta, Tom Cruise and Will Smith. When I was a young man people at gay bars recognized Cruise and Travolta from gay bars, the gay scene and so on.
I remember seeing Will Smith on Letterman just when he started to make his first movie and he was "flaming" up a storm. He was quite effeminate.
Now they are all Scientologists and married with children.
Scientology does not allow homosexuality. I believe these guys turn to Scientology to help "cure" themselves of those urges because they know that you can't be a big Hollywood star and be openly gay.

I like Will Smith and was very sad to learn that he was involved in this crazy cult. Too bad. I am especially concerned for his children.

Yes, they ARE a terrorist organization. Just not in an obvious way.

exscientologykids.com is FULL of stories on what happens to the children inside this cult. Go to their Voices in Unison page and THEN come back and tell us if you still think it 'harmless'.
