Duggar Family Welcomes Baby #18

ROGERS, Ark. — An Arkansas woman has given birth to her 18th child.

Michelle Duggar delivered the baby girl by Caesarean section Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. The baby, named Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar, weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

"The ultimate Christmas gift from God," said Jim Bob Duggar, the father of the 18 children. "She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."

The Duggars now have 10 sons and eight daughters.

Jim Bob Duggar said Michelle started having contractions Wednesday night. She needed the C-section, her third, because the baby was lying sideways. Jim Bob said both baby and mother were doing well Thursday night.

"We both would love to have more," he said.

The cable network TLC broadcasts a weekly show about the Duggars called "17 Kids and Counting." Chris Finnegan of TLC _ which handles public relations for the Duggar family _ said the show's name would be updated to account for the latest addition to the family. He said TLC also will air a show Monday on the baby's delivery.

Jim Bob Duggar is 43, a year older than his wife. Their oldest child, Joshua, is 20.

The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jordyn-Grace, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; and Jennifer, 1.

"Our whole family is excited about Jordyn's addition to our family," Jim Bob Duggar said. "She's just perfect in every way."

All of you who are making these rude comments are probably people who can't have children or shouldn't have them. Leave this family alone they aren't destroying anyones lives including their own. The kids are perfectly healthy and happy. If God wanted them to have all those babies, then so be it. They are totally selfsufficient and support themselves. They are not on public assistance. God meant for people to have babies, duh, Mary & Joseph, think about it. I think it's wonderful they are teaching their family the ways of the Lord, more power to them for doing so. God loves everyone but if you people don't ask for forgiveness then where do you think you'll go to after you die, think about that before you open your mouth next time.

I'm also a mother of 4 and grandmother of 2 and no I don't need permission from anyone to post my comments but I do know who I will answer to when I leave this earth, do you? Get a clue! Perhaps you should re-think what you say or do, the Duggars are a happy and healthy family. I am a very happy mother and grandmother too but I don't know how long I will be on this earth because of my health and I could die tomorrow and if I do I know God will be there to greet me with open arms. I'm only 44 and I don't know how much longer I will live but I'm at peace with my choice to let God guide me during the time I am here. I know where I'm going, do you?

As I watch about this family on TV I am struck by the fact that these children are raising each other. Michelle stays pregnant and ole JimBob: well, . I believe there is some "cult" type religious beliefs going on there. They dress the children like pilgrims from thrift stores. there is nothing wrong about thrift stores, but try to dress the children in today's styles. My problem with all these children is that as soon as Michelle pops one out, Jim Bob puts another one in its place. Everytime one is born the last one gets pushed off on the other girls. I've seen pictures on their web site where the older girls are wearing a baby pac complete with baby while practicing piano lessons. They have a huge house now : all boys in one big room and all the girls in another room, all domitory style. What happened to having some privacy for the girls, 2 or 3 to a large room? Michelle is 42 and for her to continue to be a brood mare is irresponsible. We'd have our pets spayed/nutered.

I find it distasteful that they are exploiting their children in this manner. The TV cameras go to the prenatal dr. visits, the births, what's next the conception?

If they STOP now, the 18th child will be ready to leave the nest about the time Michelle and JimBob are getting ready for retirement / Medicare! Get a clue you two!

This family follows the teachings of a man named Bill Gothard. LOOK BILL GOTHARD up on the internet- creepy. They follow his teachings to a t. He runs a fake college/institute called Advanced Training Institute. They believe in arranged marriages, no tv, no birth control, obeying husbands, etc. They say the children have say about their future lives- but that is absolutely not true. They would be abandoned if they ever turned from this system. There is a lot of abuse in this organization. It is by all means a CULT- christian fundamentalist- although not polygamous like the mormons. It is a very scarey homeschool move across the country of ultra-wackoism. The clothes, the modest swimsuits, the engagement (Did you notice how the oldest boy is proposing and he says, "come over here" to his future bride? demanding her around-- please- some things you just can't hide), I mean come on- what is this? Just NUTTTTTTTS­SSSSSS!!!!­!!

The fact that this family follows a belief that is not your own is fine. Our country was built upon the fact that there should be religious freedom (of ANY kind). If you disapprove of what the Duggar family is doing concerning children and raising a family, then don't follow their family in the news or on television. And, as for Mormons, they ARE NOT polygamists. That has not been practiced since before Utah even became a state. Leave the family alone. Let them raise their children with Christian beliefs if they want. Not all churches are the same. If they were, there would only be one church.

Do I think this is odd? Yep. Is it my cup of tea? Nope. Am I saddened by how free everyone feels to attack this woman and her family? You bet.

Everything from jokes about her reproductive organs to suggestions that there should be tax penalties for more than two children per family to blaming this couple for the destruction of the earth to the assumptions that they live on welfare or public donations.­..so crass and ignorant. They shouldn't have 18 children b/c it's bad for the earth? What's bad for the earth is all of us in our cars, with our power lines strung everywhere, drinking bottled water that used more water to make the bottle than the bottle will even contain, buying our fruit from distant locations requiring tons of gas to transport it, filling up the landfills with all our garbage and things that no longer please us.

It would be lovely if we could blame everything that is wrong in the world on this one woman from Arkansas and her husband with two first names but sadly, we all share responsibility for the destruction of our planet. And we haven't come very far toward equality of the sexes given how free everyone feels to insult everything from this woman's intelligence to her vagina. We could solve the energy crisis by bottling all the energy people waste blaming Michelle Duggar for the world's ills instead of actually doing something themselves to make things better.

Why is the Dugger family being "attacked" so much? Because they put themselves out there and they're exploiting their reproductive capabilities for big $$$. They put this on TV. If they don't like the heat, they should get out of the kitchen. There is nothing altruistic in what they are doing. Baby machine Michelle must get something out of it. Maybe pregnancy is the only time she gets any attention from Jim Bob, who clearly has a problem keeping his pants zipped. Maybe Michelle is so pampered by everyone while pregnant, where everyone raises her kids, does her laundry, cooks her meals, pays her bills, etc., that the reality of having to actually live with the work involved in raising 18 kids scares the heck out of her. Therefore, maybe it's just easier in her mind, to be pregnant replete with the all perks I just mentioned, along with her basking in the national attention of Freaksville, USA.

Great site. Scary indeed. Children are a gift from God and they should be handled with love and care to grow up into caring, compassionate and loving adults. How you do this in twisted concepts like this is beyond me. The view of Christianty is incredibly warped. God gave man free choice and common sense -- neither of which seem to come into play in this concept.

It's like they are just raising little armies that will grow into big, psychologi­cally-unba­lanced armies.

Definitely the process of pregnancy that is the thrill for this lady. You would have to see if all the kids feel like they are on the parental radar to know if they are raising healthy human beings or just turning out a litter of kids who will have needs not being met in such a giant pack.

That is the sad thing about this. If this family were black, there would not just 1,600 and growing comments on this (mind-blowing and here I am contributing to more), there would be thousands and I'll bet they would all be highly-negative and racist. I am white, so I feel fairly comfortable noting this. When was the last time you saw a black family exploiting themselves and their kids in this manner?

I love that it's Jim Bob who's saying they would love to have more. I guess Michelle doesn't really count for anything..­. not a single kid got to be named with an M in her honor, it's all J, just like their daddy.

I've always found it creepy when parents limit themselves to one letter of the alphabet when naming their kids and in every instance I've seen, the letter is always the same as the father's..­. hmmm.

according to the one time I saw them on TV, they said they tried birth control after the first baby, but it made her sick. So they just had whatever baby came along.

Im' waiting for them to give an orphan baby a home, rather than have more and more and more. Did adoption never go through their minds?
