Carrie Fisher

New York Times:

"She wants the lights dimmed," said the manager of the Barnes & Noble on West 66th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. And the lectern? "She doesn't want that, either."

And so it was done.

At 8 p.m. on a recent evening, Carrie Fisher, dressed head to toe in black, perched on a stool in front of more than 200 fans. Just moments earlier, the audience had emitted a collective groan when told that copies of her new memoir, "Wishful Drinking," an adaptation of her one-woman show, would be pre-signed. Sadly, there would be no one-on-one with the actress who achieved icon status as Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" films.

LOVE all her books & can't wait for the new one. I wonder if she talks about Richard Dreyfuss? They were drug buddies back in the '70s, still close friends, & I always wondered if they had something romantic going on out of the public's eye. I adore them both, so I'm curious (& snoopy) about them! ;-) She's hilarious in print & in person. Also, an uncredited polisher of many movie scripts that needed more humor. POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE is brilliant!

Poisonous epitaphs dished out periodically.

Nubile postpubescent thespians don't die. Sometimes they become acerbic social commentators and authors.

And Carrie is funny as hell.

She seems very much NOT WELL (probably not sober).

I assess the same thing. I saw her on the View. The damage done to her by her parents and the self induced damage is evident and apparently permanent.

When she was younger and cute she was banging Chris Dodd. At least he hit it while there was no underwear in space....according to her book.

She's hilarious. Anyone who can crack up the CREW on a talk show has wit to spare.

She looks better without the bangs. The hair parted in the middle.
People in Hollywood love her. I mean the stars she knows are her good friends.
She was good in 'When Harry Met Sally'.

I am going to buy some of her her books and give one to my mother for Christmas.

( She does still remind me of Brenda Vacarro though. )

Anyone thinking Carrie is "un-funny" needs a funny bone transplant. AND . . . if this is what "biological brain disorder" (or whatever euphemism you choose to call it) does to one's sense of humor, then bring on the crazies. The world, in case you haven't noticed, could use a few laughs at this time. Few people are as consistently clever and humorous as Carrie Fisher. She was on NPR the other afternoon as I was driving home from work, and even when I'd arrived at my destination and was parked in my driveway, I couldn't leave the car for fear of missing even one of Carrie's witicisms. I sat in the car in my driveway for twenty minutes! And I had to pee, too!!! Love the woman!

Speaking for myself, I never said Carrie wasn't a funny, intelligent, interesting woman.
Quite the contrary...
However, just because she's "funny" doesn't mean we should ignore the obvious psychological trouble the woman is displaying. It isn't all about "entertaining US" you know....

I thought that was a picture of Ozzy. Yikes!

Loved her in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back!

She does look like Ozzy (with no offense to either)--the photo with this article is the second time lately I've though I was seeing Ozzy Obsbourne rather than Carrie Fisher.

People! This woman's only 52!! Almost same as Sharon Stone.

What a tragedy, threw away her beauty & health. Had everything handed to her on a silver platter.

Shakespearean tragedy!!

You're so full of what's right, you can't see what

Along with her health and beauty, she was "blessed" with bipolar disorder. You don't get a choice about that.

The picture and the title made me think about A Night With Alice Cooper! lolll I know I know this is mean spirited but it really hard not to laugh about it.

She's talented and funny, a great writer. Having said that - I think it's unfortunate when people over do the plastic surgery. It seems to just be another addiction with obvious unfortunate effects.

There are slways fools in any crowd, but this thread seems to be extraordinarily blessed with them.
Don't you know: "A loving heart and a 'hearty' laugh are qualities not apparent in anyone's photograph".

I've always loved Carrie... however lately I am disappointed in her obvious ploy to 'cash in' on her looniness.
She is down playing her educated, intelligent, sensitive side -- to play up the "look-at-me I'm old and ugly but boy am I KOOKIE and FUN!" side. Carrie seems to be off her medication, and there's nothing "fun" or funny about that...

For someone who claims to love Carrie, that's not a very nice post.

Clare53,
Actually, I feel very sorry for Carrie. She's not doing 'well'. Just look at her.

She's acting pretty much like a flamboyant kook out in public and on tv interviews.
As a matter of fact, she's acting pretty much just like her MOM did --and Carrie claimed she was always very "embarrassed" about her (mother's) behavior.

Just a short time ago Carrie was looking good- well rested, put together, stylish, confident, etc. Now? She's an all-black-wearing, Ozzie-looking, goth-like, manic MESS; and seems to want to cash in on that mess.
No one calls attention to themselves in such a negative un-attractive way unless they have "issues".

I DO like Carrie... I'm disappointed this is happening to her...

it worked for britney, so let her make her $$$. the public adores crazy.
