The Times of India:

LUCKNOW: A mother of two young children has gone into hiding after her dissolute husband wagered her in a card game and
lost.

"Tumko hum juen mein haar gaye hain (I have lost you in the game of cards),'' was what Sokendra Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, told his wife when four men, who had "won" her showed up to collect their booty on December 19.

he probably wanted to get rid of her on purpose. perhaps couldn't afford her, didn't want to put up with the complaints, and she probably lost her looks.

Another comment adding to the growing evidence that men are pigs.

I bet...I wager....I mean I would gather that this man would not have gambled his cow.

sad but not shocking. in so many parts of the world women (and even children) are viewed as nothing more than property to be sold.

This kind of sexist behavior is revolting to me, as a progressive India male. I can say without hesitation that every Indian I know would not hesitate to kick this guy's butt. Also, those policemen need to be thrown in jail. The rural parts of India are seriously backward and confused in their thinking. They will worship Hindu Goddesses and proclaim their respect for all mothers, while at the same time treating their wives like they're property.

She must not have had a very good dowry when they got married. What does she look like, and what is her personality? Maybe he won and they lost.

Weird... I'm reading the Mahabharata, and tales of Indian men gambling away their wives figure repeatedly in it.

I don't know what I find more appalling - that the husband gambled his wife, or that 4 men actually showed up to get her.

You might want to watch your language on this now conservative site. That next to the last word could have gotten your post to get the dreaded 'comment pending' by the hufpo cops. It would have disappeared without even being read by anyone.
