In everything the republicans say, there is never a mention of the problems this nation has or what they intend to do about them. Whenever confronted with a crisis they spew forth nothing more than conservative talking points. "If everyone was a conservative like us we wouldn't have these problems." seems to be their attitude about everything.

It is not no longer parody when it mt must be explained and defended as such.

And the "wild thing?"

I've heard this song, and it's vile and disgusting.
It's obviously designed to arouse the racism within many people.

Kate is wrong. This "song" is NOT a parody mocking Sharpton, it is racist and bigoted and all about Obama. Shame on her. I don't know anyone, of any skin color, who thinks this is clever. However, if they keep it up, their tent will never be full!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:07 PM on 12/31/2008

You're correct. It's not a mockery of Sharpton. It also mocks Joe "clean and articulate" Biden. It also mocks the LA Times opinion piece of the same title. To quote from the article's reference to Obama, "He has no past, he simply appears one day to help the white protagonist." Are you ready to cancel your LA Times subscription? Have you even listened to the song? You don't even realize that it is in fact a parody of of people like YOU who can't even see their own race obsession even as they point fingers at "they" and "their".

Its seriously shocking seeing you people possibly defend the indefensible on this one. Its truly shocking. Im not all for being PC in EVERYTHING in society but this crossed the line.

YOU know it, THEY know it, WE ALL KNOW IT. Cut the crap.

Oh no, it's not a mockery of Sharpton - the Sharpton "voice" is so well spoken and sounds really intelligent doesn't it??? Rush Limpuke is a master at disguising racism as parody, he's been doing it for years. The "minority" populations of the United States are growing and growing. If the Republicans continue their philosophy of "divide and conquer" using race and cultural wedge issues they are going to become insignificant and irrelevant very swiftly. Keep it up guys, I'll send flowers to your funeral.

Have any of the negative commenters here actually listened to the song or have any clue that it is a parody rooted in a LA Times column that coined the phrase that everyone is panting about? First of all, the lyrics basically say very little about Obama. Its focus is on the race baiters like Al Sharpton. The obsession of the liberal media's coverage of this "news" and their failure to recognize this element of the story only serves to illustrate the message behind the parody.

It sounds like You did listen to the lyrics.....based on Your words ? (I havn't read them)
You said the lyrics referred to race baiters like Sharpton.

Gee... You read the lyrics ... But must have forgotten to read the "TITLE"... the very first words in the Song. That would be 'Barack'...? Open your eyes.... and your mind.

How did you miss that

I missed nothing. The title is exactly the same as the LA Times article that the parody is based on. Is that a racist paper? Again, did you even bother to read (or better yet, listen to) the lyrics of the parody or read the original article? Your position is like me claiming that a Spike Lee movie is racist because it's entitled "White Men Can't Jump". Come on. Lift your head a tad to at least get a little better view.

Um, even just the title itself is offensively racist. Get a clue. And wingnuts don't do parody. They just do insults and call it parody.

The title is exactly the same as the LA Times article the parody is based on. Did you even bother to read the lyrics of the parody or the original article? Or do you prefer to jump to an ignorant conclusion that fits your mindset?

When liberals and progressives respond to social justice issues with action based in righteousness, we are dismissed as "angry". Watch that Republican woman from Virginia's response to some poorly written, tasteless parody to see some baseless anger! What a harridan!

There are so many things offensive in that song. First - it's not funny, nor clever, nor mildly amusing. It insults caucasians who supported Barack Obama by implying we did it out of white guilt and not because he was the best candidate. It insults African Americans by insinuating that Barack being "articulate" and "clean" are nothing more than media labels.

What don't you get about it being a parody! It was David Ehrenstein of the LA Times who said whites support Obama out of "white guilt" and not because he was the best candidate. It was JOE BIDEN who said Obama was the first "articulate" and "clean" black man to run for president. And Al Sharpton, who was upset at Biden's statement because he had run for president before. Your blind ignorance is amusing!

I'm sorry I can't get pass the title of the song. It's offensive..period. It just can't be defended or explained. So why listen to the rest of the so called parody. Also, how can you tell a person what they can or can not be offended by. Sometimes a person will smile or laugh at the absurdity of a statement or situation to keep from responding because it's so ridiculous and not worth the waste of time. Maybe that's why the Pres. Elect did not bother with it. Tamron Hall is right.

RageCage - you are being disingenuous when you, or anyone else, tries to deny the offensive nature of this particular person sending out copies of this song to Republican party members. First of all there is the history of whites owning black people - then there is the nature of the song which promotes Rush Limbaugh's world view in which he thinks that most black people don't think Obama is authentic because he is "only" half black and is not from the hood. And yeah, I know the term was in a LA Times editorial and I know what that editorial was about - but Limbaugh jumped on it not because he agreed with the editorialist's comments. Limbaugh, like many racists, thinks that all black people are drug dealers and live in the ghetto. He therefore rationalized that many black people would not support Obama because Obama is well-educated and works hard - and of course he thought wrong - as usual. That's what makes the song racist and derogatory - not funny.

This woman is the example of why the republicans have lost the House, the Senate and the White House. They have become a rural Southern party. I think a name change is in order. Maybe something like the "Native Woods and Farm Mistrust The Others Party"

First of all, you have no right to try to tell another human being what to be offended by!! Second, one doesn't need a "specific lyric" to be offended by! What's offensive is the very nature of the song and your remarks and questions are indicative of the insensitivity and unenlightenment that the GOP practices with expertise! Third, black Americans (by such supposed "humor") are demeaned by the spirit of the caricature(s) - something we've endured since this country's inception. To demean THIS man is not going to be put up with!!!

I guess the GOP would think it's alright if Dems distributed a song, "Sarah, the Magic Bible-thumper," or "McCain, the Magic Gambling philanderer."
