Gonzales To Write Tell-All Book

The Huffington Post   |  Rachel Weiner   |   December 31, 2008 08:39 AM

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The Wall Street Journal reports that former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is writing a book:

Alberto Gonzales, who has kept a low profile since resigning as attorney general nearly 16 months ago, said he is writing a book to set the record straight about his controversial tenure as a senior official in the Bush administration.

In his interview with the paper, the disgraced appointee expressed frustration that "for some reason, I am portrayed as the one who is evil in formulating policies that people disagree with."

"I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror," he added.

Apparently, the book's publication has already hit a few snags.

Mr. Gonzales, 53 years old, doesn't have a publisher for his book. He said he is writing it if only "for my sons, so at least they know the story."

The chapters on the Bush administration's surveillance program, which involved eavesdropping without court warrants, and other controversial aspects of his work, remain blank. That is in part because he remains under investigation regarding allegations of political meddling at the Justice Department.

Another reason he might be writing the book: he can't find a job. Gonzales has had trouble getting employment since resigning from the Justice Department. In July, he suddenly began appearing in D.C. again after months of absence -- leading the Washington Post to speculate that he had landed a gig. Read more about Gonzales here. Read more excerpts from his WSJ interview here.

Memories retrieved by hypnosis or after being suppressed are not generally considered reliable. So, either the book will be empty, untrue, or it will contradict his testimony to Congress, that he cannot recall -- anything worth knowing at all, really. Gonzo should also be careful about those "operational details" that were purportedly so important to national security they could not be revealed to voters while it was his job to uphold and defend the Constitution, or his sons can see him through 2 inches of plexiglass.

I am laughing my ass off that Gonzales is calling himself a victim.

Gonzales is a victim. His association with George W. Bush has destroyed him.

Personally (although I wouldn't wipe my butt with his book when it comes out) I would expect the book to contain large doses of the following:

1) Lies
2) Lies of Ommission
3) Half-truths
4) Pseudo-patriotic flag waving
5) Posturing & Preening
6) Complete fabrication of a Bushian fantasy-land wet-dream or two

Unfortunately,... my projection is also that this book will sell hundreds of thousands (or more) copies.

Sad commentary, isn't it?

He already sold his soul to the devil, does he think he can buy it back now with a book? You are a weak, spineless coward Alberto. Go on the record and testify to congress and the courts, or at least go on the talk show circuit and come clean, don't try and make money off your past lies and cowardice.

Too little, too late. No one can do anything to the Bush admin now, so he's totally safe.

What an asshat.

Gonzales said...
"I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror,"

Unlike the people he tortured and killed,he gets a pension though.

These disgraced Neocons advertise a tell all. I guess I'd have to lie to pump up the same bull all these other pols are selling. They are given millions of dollars for stuff that is supposed to be public. It should be reaching our history books for free. Oh that's right. They're never going to tell the truth. Gonzo Gonzalez, by the way I originated that name on Slate, is a pathetic follower who was duped by those he believed in. His crimes are many. His history dumb. Like all the other felons why should he make money on his activities? Again about Slate, FOX must have been told to cool it as the Democrats were kicking Neocon Butt. Two virus' and many IT attacks later it just got too boring and troublesome to continue. They won the battle but lost the war.
Right wing philosophy is not only boring but very much illegal and costly. If anything positive came out of these last 8 years, it would be, what not to elect. But then again if it weren't for these guys and gals we'd never see a person like Barak Obama elected President. The Hypocrisy is while the Republicans tried to consolidate and control political power they cost themselves the same. Obama is their 2nd lesson with a butt kick as punishment. The first being losing their self righteous majorities. the Judicial Branch will avoid major change. Although with Democrats holding the power they will never be so brazing.

Maybe Bush/Cheney will buy up the crates of unsold copies, then burn them. I'm not privy to where books like this end up but I just have a feeling we'll be fed Gonzo's book is #1 Best Seller (blah, blah, blah).

ah well. HuffPo will have excerpts we can all laugh at, I'll look forward to those.

Oh boy, Alberto's going to write a book to paint himself as a victim. We all know you were a willing participant in firing those U.S. attorneys for political reasons. You better hope that Congress doesn't grow a backbone between now and January 20th, because it could go very badly for you and your buddies in the Bush administration if they do.

How can he write a "tell all" book, since under oath, he swore that he could not remember anything.
