Republicans To Flee DC For Obama Inauguration

While millions descend on Washington for the historic inauguration of Barack Obama on January 20, some Republicans see it as an occasion to get out of town.

Out of power on both ends of Pennsylvania Ave and mostly out of favor on K Street, many emasculated elephants in the GOP herd will begin the Age of Obama with what amounts to an extended holiday vacation. Instead of fighting the quadrennial cold and what are expected to be record-setting crowds, they're heading out to greener pastures, with better temperatures, less hassle and more agreeable company.

Warms my heart to know that some people can still jet off to exotic paradise during these times. Yes, I KNOW there are very wealthy dems out there...and many of them must live and work in the DC area. But the Repubs. are always so tone deaf about what is going on with the "little people"...you know...the ones that "don't count" (unless they are being pandered to about Joe Sixpack, gay- bashing and religion).

Any political exile who might want to worm his or her way back to the hearts and minds of the average American right now might do well to downplay their fan-freaki­n-tabulous holiday plans. Problem? Many of the majority who elected Obama can't afford a bus pass out of town right now...much less a glamorous tropical getaway. If I was a member of the wealthy minority right about now...I'd drink myself a nice hot cup of shut-the-y­ou-know-wh­at-up...ju­st to retain my credibility.

You can still go out and enjoy yourself and "spread the wealth around" (to casinos, bars, and sports teams from the sound of it). But do it with a bit less braggadocio.
