No petroleum on my body, thank you. Most of those products listed are full of dangerous chemicals and preservatives, many of which are absorbed into the body.

Lansinoh Lanolin for Breastfeeding Mothers is ultra pure lanolin and is magical for dry or chapped skin. I use it everywhere and on my kids. It is for sore, cracked nipples (sorry but it is) but it is simply ultra purified lanolin so it has no pesticides, detergents and is hypoallergenic so even someone allergic to lanolin can use it. a friend of mine is in her 60s and has been using it since it came out (she is a breastfeeding counselor so that is how she got familiar with it) and has very few wrinkles. great for chapped lips, windburn, chafed skin--seriously can use it for anything. I use it also as a base for my foundation and it never gets cakey.

My mother slathered pure sheep's lanolin on her face every day of her life and did not have one wrinkle until she was 68. Not one wrinkle. Not even a crows feet wrinkle.

Olay products are the best. People usually think I'm 30 or in my late 20's when I'm actually 42. I have no wrinkles, crowsfeet, laugh lines or forehead creases, they will have to pry them from my cold dead hands.

Wouldn't Vaseline get your pillow stained up at night? Does your hair get full of it? I'm curious--I'd like to try it, but the thought of slathering it on my face then messing up a pillow case isn't something I'd relish.

What am I missing in that scenario?

I'm all about the Olay. I've used the basic moisturizer (Olay Complete and its predecessors) since I was fifteen. I'm now 41, and people regularly think I'm in my twenties. The trick is to start moisturizing as a young person, not to wait until you have wrinkles and then try to erase them.

I think the trick is to inherit great genes. My mother's older sister spent wads of money at Elizabeth Arden's Red Door all her life and had a gorgeous complexion. My mother, now 91, never put anything on her face but soap and water and has the exact same gorgeous complexion. Everybody thinks she's in her 60's!

The last thing any thinking women wants is any vasoline product anywhere near her face. You've got to be kidding. It's a petroleum product. It's nothing more than a spiffy-packaged waste product of the oil refining process. It belongs in the garbage, not on your face. Please. Go to the library and get a make-up book.

As a former Londoner who still carries a mini Vaseline tub in her handbag - you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, it's cheapy petroleum by product but nothin works better on chapped lips and hands. As a Nars loving, Mac using New Yorker - not everything I use and love has to contain a hundred chemicals and cost the earth.

You dont know what you're talking about. Romanian medical research (and anyone who knows anything about skin knows to trust the Hungarians and Romanians before Madison Ave marketers) proved that Vaseline reconstructs, collagen in the skin. Pure vaseline, without any additives, is what you use.

And what is this diss about petroleum? It is a natural product. Out of the ground.

I've used Vaseline in the jar to remove my eye makeup since 1976. I do not have wrinkles, crowsfeet or crinkles around my eyes. An older woman advised me to use it back then and she was right. She also said to stay out of the sun and be a "shade seeker". I still use it nightly and still don't have the wrinkles around the eyes like other women of my age (46). Besides my Neutrogena Sunscreen for Faces, this is the only other product I cannot live without and refuse to give up.

Funny, though, it's not actually Vaseline that made the list ~ it's Vaseline Lip Therapy and Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion.
I think the photo of a jar of Vaseline is misleading and, dare I say, provocative? Hee hee.

Sorry you're wrong. In Britain they sell actual Vaseline petroleum jelly in tiny lip balm disc cases. The product itself is the same. I didn't know any woman there who didn't have one in her bag.

Once on her show about secret beauty tips Tyra Banks gave everyone in the audience vaseline. The faces on the dissapointed women was hard to ignore. It was cheaper than all the gadgets these TV shows give those who come to see them. The women were like "I made it to the show and this is all I get?" After you are past fifty you learn the real value of vaseline.

Baking Soda. Mixed with a mild cleanser like Cetaphyl makes a gentle scrub. You can brush your teeth and gargle with it. Mixed with Shampoo , it gets your scalp and hair very clean. You can soak in it ,which makes your skin very soft. Mixed with Epsom salt in a very hot bath it makes a great detox for your entire body. The uses are endless, plus it is very cheap.

Darn...the secret is out about Vaseline. When I was a young woman in my 20s, I had a next door neighbor in her late 40s who's skin looked amazing. I asked what her secret was and yes, she applied Vaseline Petroleum Jelly at night. I didn't take her advice until my early 40s, but even at that, I now get people asking me what I use on my skin because my skin is in great shape for someone in her early 50s.

I had heard the naysayers about the "damage" applying Vaseline can do to your face, but the proof is in the skin...and it looks great.

I'm not a woman, so I can't make a strong point

but I say it's kind of ridiculous to put all your skincare faith in products.

I mean there's really no secret to a great complexion.
If you eat junk foods, fast food, etc. and don't wash your face, get too much sun, smoke, etc...then of course your skin will look weird, to say the least.

But if you're healthy in mind, body, and diet...and clean your face with just soap and water, and a good scrub down...then you'll look good. you don't need botox, and all these skin potions

As another commenter alluded to, it's a product derived from crude oil, hmmm sacrificing the planet (global warming) for beauty. Seems kinda selfish. R there alternatives that aren't fossil fuel derived?

Yeah, grapeseed oil, extra virgin olive oil, almond oil, or any other kind of vegetable oil. They're pricey or they're inexpensive, and they do the job as well as petrolatum does.

Yup I forgot olive oil, it's use probably predates the fossil fuel age.
