Ann Coulter's "Today" Show Appearance Canceled, Rescheduled (UPDATED)

FINAL Update Wednesday 8:45 AM: Coulter appeared in the 7 AM hour of "Today" Wednesday morning, and Matt Lauer opened the interview by acknowledging "this little controversy."

When Lauer asked whether Coulter was behind the report that she was banned for life from the "Today" show, she responded, "I didn't say that. That was from a reliable news report that, by the way, has never had to retract a report on exploding GM trucks...like NBC."

Coulter then told Lauer, "It apparently took the 'Today' show eight hours to remember that there was a Wednesday show that I could be invited back to."

"We traded you out for Tony Blair yesterday," Lauer said, accusing Coulter of drumming up controversy to sell books. "And I think that's a pretty good switch."

Update 1:45 PM: Coulter is booked for at least two hits on "Today" Wednesday morning, according to her website:

Monday night, Coulter told Hannity & Colmes that she would cancel on the "Today" show at the last minute if she were re-booked.

Coulter appeared on CBS's The Early Show where she told anchor Harry Smith that he was her favorite for having her on this morning after The Today Show had canceled her. Smith allowed Coulter to rant, but then pushed her on claims of right-wing victimization and urged her to "take a breath." He also called her "goofy" and "sophomoric." Watch the video:

***UPDATE*** 11:10PM Coulter was a guest on the Fox News show "Hannity and Colmes" tonight, where she harshly criticized NBC for canceling her planned appearance on the "Today" show. The controversial author accused the network of orchestrating a "set up to block me from other TV shows."

Coulter was reportedly offered a spot on Wednesday's show but she shrugged off the offer: "I think I'll accept and then cancel at the last minute."

NBC had come under fire for booking Coulter, who had been scheduled to promote her new book, Guilty, on the "Today" show Tuesday morning.

But on her website, Coulter announced that the appearance had been "cancelled" (via):

I guess this ends the "they just want to get ratings" argument about liberal media bias.

The liberal media watchdog group Media Matters launched a campaign last week asking, "Is NBC going to help Coulter sell this book?"

In the book, Coulter repeatedly refers to President-Elect Obama as B. Hussein Obama, and mocks Michelle Obama's style while praising Cindy McCain's.

Coulter will appear on CBS' "Early Show" Tuesday morning to promote the book, according to her website.

My Liberal circle of friends say Ann is crazy and racist. I agree that many of her views are racist, but she is crazy like a fox. She turns her controversy and conspiracy theories into million dollar book deals. I think she may also be hungry and sleep deprived. She is ultra thin and those sunken cheeks and bulging eyes look unhealthy. I don't think much of her views because I am convinced all of her is a gimmic.

Matt Lauer has the patience of a particularly patient Galapagos tortoise. Watching him interview the Coltergeist (copyright Keith Olbermann) reminds me so much of Charlie Brown, Lucy and the Football. He keeps trying to get her to just flat out admit she's just being poisonous and obnoxious, and she just comes back with doe-eyes and going, "I can't understand how you get that impression! Is it no wonder that I think the liberal media is always trying to hurt my feelings?"

Matt, she's just going to keep at it until you snap and punch her in the face. She's like the girl who you'd call at the last moment and say, "Sweetheart, I'm sorry, I've got to cancel our date! My mom's just fallen off a stepladder and I've got to take her to the ER."

Ann Coulter is a twisted person who unfortunately knows how to manipulate people into buying her books. The world would be a better place if nobody bought her book or the garbage she spews.

You can tell she makes this stuff up in her head as she goes along...and we're supposed to be duped and buy into it? She psycho...and is not someone who cares about improving America. As a matter of fact, she profits from ensuring we all stay angry at and are mean to one another.

Harry Smith was low key and brilliant!! He was a bit overshadowed by Coulter's incessant self praising, but if you have patience, the brilliance of his questions and comments comes through.

The most telling point in the interview is Coulter's last statement which reveals her true love -- MONEY !! For Ann truth is maleable ultimately as for Rush, Hannity and other fellow travelers it is just about money. The sad thing is there are millions of people out in the world who seem to think "these people" are protecting the unborn and the patriotic for altruistic reasons. SAD, truly sad.

What I'd like to know is what percentage of people in jail and runaway homeless youth grew up in poverty. Like most Conservatives, Coulter fails to look beyond the nose on her face when making sweeping assumptions like "all of America's problems are due to illegitimate children." She won't even engage in reasonable discussion with her hosts, she simply barks platitudes and bullies others into letting her rant nonsensically. I think she's a female version of Bill O'Reilly, without the leprechaunish cuteness.

What a bunch of babies the conservative right wingers are, The lost the senate majority, the house,respect from the American people and the highest office in the land. A man wakes up in the morning and finds his house destroyed. Furthermore, a tree has fallen on his car. He notices one of his tires is flat.

He believes that once he gets the flat tire fixed, all will be good with his life.

Such is life in the NeoCon world. Forget about the big picture. Let's focus on single motherhood, minority crime, and on and on and on...
