The people who have been laid off do not need tax cuts, they need jobs. People are not going to take their tax cuts and go out and hire somebody.
I too am curious to hear what he has to say. If for nothing else, just to be able to gauge the reaction time between his announcing a particular economic policy and being able to implement it. The time between the lightning and the thunder so-to-speak. May give us an idea on how long it could take to get out of this crisis.
Making Boehner unhappy would be icing on the cake. I could live a long healthy life without ever seeing him again.
It's Obama Time......Let's Get Ready to RUMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You know the republicans are dreading Thursday! He will make it clear that we cannot delay! And the republicans really don't (or shouldn't) want to be the reason 95% of Americans are still waiting for their bailout! The republicans want tax cuts, but they just want them for the wealthy! They are going to try to block anything that will help the majority of Americans!
Name-caller!
I will reserve judgement on that 300 bill until I hear Obama speak on Thursday. I gurantee we stop the hooplah and totally understand where he is coming from after. CAN'T WAIT.
Me, too!
very scary, real cult of personality stuff, don't be so easily romanced, focus on the goals for Earth's sake. Remove the hawk part of the Bush right wingers and it would be very hard to find a real differance between them and what the "new" team are prone to. I hope you are right in your effections, we shall see...
ill co-sign! you people are in for a treat with Mr. Empty suit. Another speech, how many will he give, saying the same stuff: "economy will get worse before better", "middle class needs relief", "more tax cute", this guys has a toe load of wind in him.
It will be interesting if this speech is the first step towards embarrassing the Republicans into passing the Economic Recovery Bill that Democrats are working on.
Republicans, i.e., McConnell & Bohner, have already been pushing for full hearings which is nothing more than a ploy to delay, delay, delay until the p[public becomes unhappy with Obama for not delivering.
Oh you know it is.
The Republicans have learned absolutely nothing from the campaign. Obama played chess, while his opponents played marbles. He thinks 10 steps ahead, and knows what his opponents are going to do before they do it. (The end result was he had them running to Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana, and Arizona to play defense). He said he was going to involve the American people (as it should be) in the process, which means he will go around the Republicans (and the some Democrats if they start acting crazy) straight to their constituents. He doesn't have that 10 million voter database for nothing.
Obama talks about bipartisanship, therefore he puts the ball in his opponents court. It is up to them if they want to play. He knows that he has the biggest lobbying force in the country -- us.
This is why we voted for the guy. I really like Krugman, but he is not going to be the new president. We need to reserve judgment on the stimulus plan until Obama addresses the nation. Plus, I don't understand all of the hoopla over the tax cuts...Obama promised tax cuts for 95% of Americans during the campaign. Were people not listening?
They thought that he was just like any other politicians who promised things and do not follow through.
