I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is often cited as a rising star in Republican politics. One of the party's most visible state executives, he has worked hard to endear himself to the GOP faithful, and has been widely mentioned as a possible White House candidate in 2012. And, true to form for some of those who seek to carry the Republican mantle on a national ticket, he is already beginning to pander to the most extreme factions of his party and his state.

In December, Jindal announced the formation of the Louisiana Commission on Marriage and Family, billed as "an entity within the executive department that serves to propose programs, policies, incentives and curriculum regarding marriage and family by collecting and analyzing data on the social and personal effects of marriage and child-bearing within the state of Louisiana."

Keep hating yourselves right into the history books, Republicans.

Typical. too bad the republicans are so afraid of gays. Why do they care so much about someone else's lifestyle?

Gays, as far as I can tell, are the last acceptable group to demonize. You can call them names in public, with your friends, and nobody says a word. A guaranteed "wedge issue" for the GOP. They'll never let go of it.

There will always be 'trial lawyers.' (Gay or not).

Everyone--and I mean EVERYONE--who hates gays, who is afraid of gays, who proposes and/or supports policies that seek to limit the rights of gays to live their lives in the way they see fit is either afraid of his/her own homosexual feelings or gay.
There is absolutely no other explanation for it.
Period.

The repugs are down to one of their last remaining issues to garner attention and support. they have not only failed but ABSOLUTELY FAILED at the rest of their platform..

Considering the nightmare left from Katrina to the coast , the horrendous enviromental problems they have, the festering racism throughout La . as evidenced in by the jenna affair and the attack on an elected black mayor and the decreased taxes coming on with the destruction of New Orleans , Gov. Jindahls priority is a MARRIAGE COMMISION?

You know he is eyeing a national run for 2012.

I am starting to believe republicans think homosexuals are not human...I use to be a homophob but as I have grown up and researched the subject a little I have found that being gay is not something that many homosexuals can control...its is not like they wake up one day and say I am going to be gay...I guess they are just going to have to continue to fight for their rights the same way blacks had to fight during the civial rights movement when they were considered less then human.

I am not gay but if I see 2 gay people walking down the street I just keep it moving - they are people with rights and this is the 21st century not the 18th or 19th - I do wish some of you were a little less flamboant though.

Keep fighting your fight - but trust and believe republicans will not make it easy for you.

Flamboant? Gee, I'll remember that next time I kiss my husband in public. Everybody has a right to be affectionate, and they shoulden't have to go into hiding behind locked doors to do it. So there.

Are there any democrats on this commission? I think it is amazing how the United States government allows individual states to take their citizens hostage based on ideological beliefs. I believe states have the right to make thier own laws regarding marriage, etc. but to form a one party commission to force thier individual beliefs is reprehensible. I am sorry for you Louisiana you have to deal with someone who is trying to sure up votes for his presidential run in 2012 at your expense.

This isn't really about gay marriage - it's about hate. For so many people, hate is a way of life. We've finally managed to make racial hatred - at least as it applies to African Americans - socially unacceptable enough that it can no longer be used as a campaign promotion. But politicians who have nothing else to offer the people must find something the voters can hate so that they can align themselves with that hatred. So, now we have LGBT hatred.

Maybe we should stop putting so much emphasis on the individual hate campaigns and concentrate our focus on hatred of any kind. Maybe, someday in the future, we could make it socially unacceptable to hate - period. Well, I can dream, anyway.

I don't care what color or ethnicity you are, if you are a NeoCon ideologue who insists on focusing on lifestyle issues to get votes from The Base I'm going to write you off and assume you aren't voteworthy.
I would vote for a Republican for POTUS if I felt they were more qualified in foreign relations, economy savvy, vision for the future. But its been a while now since the Republicans have offered me quality candidates on the national or local level. So its been a while since I've voted for one.

Marriage committee.

If this guy wants to win a national election, he should focus on the important issues.

How about the danger that witches and demons pose to our imagined way of life?

And Brother Jindhal is a self appointed excorcist!

Only one party can offer this great nation a presidential ticket that could rid this country of the scourge of witches and demons plaguing it.

And who better to lead a good old American witchhunt!

This is a brilliant strategy by Jindal and a sure-fire way to help him win a national election, as long as he can find one being held ten or twenty years ago.

Somebody should tell Jindal what Republicans actually think of his people. Minorities of any stripe that are involved in the R party need to wake up. The party is a coalition of Klansmen, fundamentalists and sports-bar businessmen. If you think they don't view you as a token, not to mention "one of the good ones," then you're deluded.

Back in plantation days, those who worked their way up from "cousin" to "uncle" had a better life.
