I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As reported earlier, the RNC has kicked C-SPAN out of their fancy pants meeting to determine who will be the future head of the committee, so no one has any idea what's going on there. Until you hear otherwise, just assume that the six candidates for the top spot are pairing up, and performing re-enactments of the video for the Chris Isaak song "Wicked Game," which is the "talent" portion of the competition. Meanwhile, however, behind the scenes, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele has earned the endorsement of Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer, who has withdrawn from consideration:

Calling for "drastic change" in the GOP's leadership, Florida Republican Party Chair Jim Greer announced Wednesday afternoon that he will not run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, and instead endorsed the campaign of former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele.

"We have to have someone that can be an effective manager, but most importantly can be a visionary," Greer said. "We have to have someone that can convey the message."

Convey what message? I guess he means DRILL, BABY, DRILL, the phrase Steele coined at the 2008 Republican National Convention, for which he will be hunted by Gorgons after the end of the world.

The only two black people who were at the republican national convention are both running to be the head of the RNC. I wonder if the republican party really believes that the gesture will convince thinking people that they are now diverse. It's quite insulting, in the same ways that it was insulting when white men made black men congressmen during reconstruction in order to dis white southerners, but not out of any genuine desire or belief in equality. That's the thing that rings true with republicans; If they look like they believe all are created equal, then you know it's an act they're putting on in the hopes of fooling people and winning votes. Because the thing they've proven many times over is that they don't believe that at all.

Congratulations to Michael Steele.
It's like being named Captain of the Titanic...
AFTER it's hit the iceberg.

Was it really just two or three of years ago that Rove and his disciples were predicting a "permanent republican majority"?
